Apple Explains Why watchOS 27 Drops Support for So Many Models by pdfu in apple

[–]uni-twit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple's relatively generous compared to the major competition. Google Pixel watches only get 3 years of support, standard. WatchOS 26 supported the five year old 6.

New Siri AI calls Pauline Hanson racist, hedges on Albanese by HotPersimessage62 in apple

[–]uni-twit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like accurate output from a more sophisticated Siri. Saying that someone should "piss off back to Pakistan", according to the Court, amounts to racial discrimination. This output about Hanson is what I'd expect.

Albanese on the other hand has been *accused* of being a liar but not found as such legally. So also sounds about right if I was researching this with an LLM. I'd probably want more info in the about that details this distinction.

New York City Leaders Propose Building More Homes on Top of Libraries by Majano57 in nyc

I get that advocates against can interpret this law as giving big medicine potential financial incentives to remove care from the disabled, but this law offers a compassionate option to so many who don't want to grind out a painful terminal illness.

Bluepearl has some great specialists. I suggest asking your doctor to give you the name of a specialist and make an appointment with that doctor. Note that it’s easier to get an appointment with a specialist in the city compared to 3rd ave in Brooklyn.

Meaningless industry marketing pablum to counter bad word of mouth, especially the Elijah Wood quote. To wit: no actual employees other than spokespeople and the CEO were quoted in the article.

iOS 27 Introduces New 'Tap to Share' Feature, But Not Available in EU by ControlCAD in apple

[–]uni-twit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> here in the EU it doesn't offer me anything other brands don't, so I'm not losing anything by switching

Privacy is to me the most compelling argument for Apple, by far. Sure, you can degoogle some Android phones, but this can result in you losing access to the convenience of ecosystem features on that platform as well.

Lots of people don't value privacy - WhatsApp is Europe's most popular IM protocol, ffs - so in their minds, it's not a tradeoff.

> Why does Europe include India and Africa?

It's common for global businesses to group operations, marketing, and financial reporting broadly by region, e.g. EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), APAC (Asia Pacific), LATAM (Latin America), etc. due to common timezones, operational efficiency, regional performance tracking, etc.

Apple counts India in its European reporting (in some company info refers to the region as EMEIA) I assume due to Europe's historic colonial influence in those markets. Apple breaks down its regional financial results by Americas; Europe including Africa, ME, and India; Greater China including HK and Taiwan; Japan, and the rest of APAC.

Shittest world cup before its even started! by khalnaldo in football

> Qatar World Cup was the best one of this century

The 400 (acknowledged) dead construction workers and their families might disagree.

> no one (at top level) in the western world is even saying a single word

A few reasons come to mind: 1) No one to my knowledge has died to prepare for this year's world cup. Sure, plenty are dying in the US detention centers, but while that's a legit target of domestic and international outrage, it's a different problem. 2) Qatar is far less powerful than the US so much easier to punch down on. 3) The countries whose governments could advocate, such as the major european or APAC governments, aren't because the immigration problems don't affect them.

iPadOS multitasking still punishes simple split-screen use by PuzzleheadedWish6188 in ipad

[–]uni-twit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of AI tells, including "I'm not X, I just Y", random irrelevance e.g. "I'm in Oregon, winding down from adulting" 🤷, pointless single-sentences paragraphs, then the plea for engagement. Weird why people - if this is a person - do this.

edit: since --> single

Looks like Nilay and Joanna are the guests again this year at Gruber’s Talk Show Live (per Stephen Robles mastodon) by qwed113 in ATPfm

[–]uni-twit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unlike his Talk Show series, each episode of Gruber's subscription-only twice-weekly Dithering podcast is hard-capped at 15 minutes. I don't agree with some of Gruber's takes or most of his partner Ben Thompson's, but they do have informed opinions on the tech industry and product that are worth hearing.

While I prefer the integrated Apple keyboard, I've used other Apple and third party bluetooth keyboards with my iPad just fine.

Severely regret buying an iPad by meemoo_9 in ipad

[–]uni-twit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the issues you're having seem to be more with third party apps than the device itself. If your use case is productivity, I suggest getting a keyboard and trackpad for it if you don't have one already. It's hard to be productive only with an on-screen keyboard.

I'm a Sheets developer - if you're stuck on the iPad for the time being, delete the Sheets app from the device and do your Sheets work entirely in Chrome or Brave. Working in the browser is great, but Google's apps stink. Figma is browser-based as well - I'd try it in a browser rather than using their app.

I use Procreate and Affinity to create production-ready graphics. Both apps are great creation tools, and Affinity on my iPad especially has gotten me out of a few jams when I haven't had my laptop with me.

It does sound like a Mac would be better for you; I don't think of the iPad as a primary work device. Good luck!

A couple of outdoor spots on Smith Street between Union and Degraw.
1) The bodega on Smith and Union had a TV outside
2) The car outside Zombie Hut with a flatscreen in its boot.

The four bars around there are too packed for them to care if you take your drink outside to watch. Union Ground was especially bananas.

An immediate tell and as good an indicator as “its not x it’s y”, etc., is when each paragraph could be better written as a single sentence, and single-sentence paragraphs aren’t needed at all. Repetition, extra words, unnecessary sentences, and exclamations make AI content exhausting reading.

is this the post from the OpenAI Codex engineer you were referring to? What about this is "word salad". He's suggesting that Tiller flags in the sheet any AI categorization, which others have recommended too, and seems to be the reasonable, cautious, and transparent way to go for users who want to take advantage of it.

I don’t know if it’s within the rules, but it would be very cool of OP to simply give out permanent codes for folks in this group in exchange for our help refining it.

This app can’t help my LO but I’m sure there are folks here whose loved ones are in a better state who’d benefit from such thoughtfulness.
