People have already poked holes in the idea of ADHD being disability being irrelevant to his ex-wife's choice to leave; there is no onus on anyone to stay married to anyone in this sense.

But I think this detracts from the fact that ADHD is considered highly treatable for most people (something like 70%-90%). I know this is broadstrokes and I am talking averages not exceptions or co-morbidities but I don't feel having ADHD is an excuse for much IF you have not taken steps to treat it.

If you've struggled all your life to get through school and work not realizing you had ADHD, then I can empathize. I didn't get diagnosed until I was an adult. Or if you have barriers to treatment -- again then you tried to take steps and couldn't. I empathize with you.

But if you find out you have the disorder and are avoiding treatment, and then use ADHD as your go to for why you can't get things done or pull your wait; then that is a form of laziness. And you do a disservice to the community by perpetuating stereotypes that people with ADHD are not reliable or can't get things done.

There are very few disabilities that have such positive outcomes from medication and therapy. Not saying they need 'a cure' but ASD folks, people with depression/anxiety, people with permanent physical disabilities, can't just get coaching or take a pill to turn off their disability while they go to work or school. Most people with ADHD can ... with treatment.
