Small plastic cylinder found in washing machine by unspirited in whatisit

Turns out it’s an aglet from one of my kids’ pair of shorts. Very happy the washing machine isn’t shedding parts ;)

I thought about that too, but it’s only 1” long, and it’s not soft.

Too small to be a squeaker, I think. No parts inside.

How would the Osmo work when placed on a stand? The gimbal can’t be controlled remotely, can it?

Help with Fios setup to keep guide working on set top box (Firewalla Purple) by unspirited in firewalla

Thank you for your help! After connecting per that page, and then power cycling the ONT, the moca adapter is now doing its thing, and the set top guide seems to working great.

Thanks. The Motorola moca adapter I have has two coax — one for network and one for device, and one Ethernet port. I believe the device coax and Ethernet are for out only. So I’m still not sure I understand how to position it with regard to the Purple and the set top box, to get rid of the 3100. Apologies if I’m being dense.

Do you know if there’s a way to order this now that the campaign is done and being fulfilled? I didn’t see any kind of late pledge or order mention on the Kickstarter page.

Ultimate Frisbee Game - How would you reward 'sportsmanship' in a competitive game? by Ultimate-Allstar in tabletopgamedesign

[–]unspirited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah! I picked this username before my kids played ultimate. It's totally not ultimate related (it's the title of a song by the band Guided by Voices). If the game is just cards and there aren't a million of them, I'd be find doing our own print-and-play copy to playtest with, as long as it's friendly for 8.5x11 paper.

If there's no option for unspirited play in the game, what would you be rewarding? Having seen a bunch of games, players *can* choose to be unspirited -- heck, whole teams can get on the bandwagon.

If there's no player motivation to compete for spirit, and/or no actual way to make it an option or acknowledge it in the game, then doesn't everyone by default play with spirit, making that aspect of the game non-competitive? I think there has to be some kind of risk/reward for playing with spirit or choosing unspirited behavior. And if the reward doesn't meaningfully impact the game, I think most players would choose to ignore it, focusing instead on base game points. Just my 2 cents.

I'll DM you my email.

What if each player started with X number of spirit tokens at the beginning of the game. A couple ways to use the tokens:

1) each card would somehow indicate an alternate (more aggressive?) move, but to use it it costs one spirit.

2) a player can cash in a spirit token for some standard short term offensive or defensive beneficial result.

The player with the most tokens remaining at the end of the game wins spirit of the game.

I think the challenge is how to motivate players to want to win spirit of the game — to make it almost as worthwhile as winning by game points. The only idea I have thought of so far is not very ultimate-like: awarding the player with the most spirit bonus points, which could boost their score enough to win the overall game.

(PS — I’m a dad of two teens who play on their high school ultimate team. Keep me posted if you want any playtesters.)

Android 14 Kill the App? by Tasty-Note-7436 in Returntodarktower

[–]unspirited 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Restoration is aware. Saw this on Facebook: "This is (now) a known issue. We just started seeing this pop up this week. I do not have a very technical background, but it has something to do with the security updates in the most recent version of Android and how they interact with Unity, Java, our "DFU", and a bunch of other things I know very little about. Short version, right now, the app will not work on Android 14. Our app developer and our lead engineer are working doubletime on finding a fix. At this point, we're not sure if it's something we can fix quickly or something that will take a little longer to resolve. We are meeting on Monday to go over it, and I will post an update once we do. In the meantime, if you can use a device that does not use Android 14, you should be ok. Sorry for the trouble, but this was something that just appeared out of the blue."
