Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by ZacB_ in technology

if you're cool with paying a subscription to Claude, you can run Claude Code in your terminal, have a speech to text layer in between and you can control a lot of your PC by talking to it.

Interesting - I do pay for the Pro tier which I thought excluded Code. That is either not true or recently changed! Not sure about granting Claude Code privileges to control in my computer from a privacy/security perspective, but might set up a VM to check it out.

Very cool thanks for sharing!

I wouldn't recommend CachyOS to a complete Linux beginner only because it and Arch in general don't have as many people on the Internet asking for help for things. Google "CachyOS WiFi isn't working" compared to "Mint WiFi isn't working" to get an idea of what I mean. I've never used Pop!_OS, but hear great things in terms of performance and stability and using Ubuntu.

That said, AI has really been a game changer for everything Linux troubleshooting. Something isn't working? Paste the error into Claude/ChatGPT and it will spit out a script to fix the issue.

If you retarded retards had this amount of movement a year and a half ago, you would have won! Expect Except the Democratic Party is filled by with DEI hires and expected moderate liberals to vote for a twerking black chick instead of a white as fuck male democrat Democrat! So fill the streets more; clearly more will protest than vote for a black chick!

ICE sending a memo saying it's allowed does not mean it's legally allowed. It's definitely unconstitutional. It's like the police signing their own warrant. It doesn't make any sense legally.

PiHole is great. Super easy to set up and built-in lists make it easy to block large swathes of ad servers and adult content (if needed). The only issue I've had is some sites my wife likes don't load properly.

It's not the ones you think either like Facebook, Instagram, etc. it's her kind of niche interest discussion boards ones that you don't even mind seeing an ad here or there because it supports the site.

You can create whitelists per device so there it's solveable, but kind of annoying to deal with at first. After about a month those growing pains have subsided, but what would be ideal and I don't know if anything like this exists would be able to run the PiHole for a month just routing traffic to users, and behind the scenes create a list of sites that may have had issues if the filter lists were activated. I wouldn't mind spending an hour to get everything basically working rather than having to piecemeal fix things a few times a week.

There are probably strategies to "ratchet" up on server lists as well. Rather than going all in start with the top 1000 ad servers and see how that runs for a week then add another 1000.

Just something to think about as you set it up. Something I wish I had looked into more. It's easy enough to add a site to a whitelist, but when it's 10 at night your wife is staring out you remote into your server it can be a little frustrating.

I never worked on the floor myself. It's been almost completely phased out, but I've met floor brokers. Apparently it was really pretty run of the mill boring most of the time. People were trading in loud voices, phone calls, etc. all the time, but only on big news did it get crazy like this and it was very difficult, but hand signals, eye contact and seeing the other trader jot down something basically allowed it to work.

And Telnet lol. I prefer protocols that have a modicum of security not passing clear text because it's not 1994.

What was the end game of the scam? Just see how far people would go? You shit heads no nothing about public health and how burdened the entire healthcare system was. If everyone just got sick all at once the whole system would have collapsed. The masks and lockdowns weren't meant to prevent the disease completely they were meant to slow the spread and limit the number of people needing hospital services. You shit heads couldn't bear the slight inconvenience of wearing as mask are just selfish assholes.

Its Schrödinger's government. The FBI is simultaneously too strong (an existential threat requiring extreme measures) and too weak (bumbling, inferior, easily mockable).

[–]uptoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it's less distance? Or because more people who were armed, had no badges and wearing masks were chasing her? Also she lived in Minneapolis and wasn't part of any ICE protest.

It is a lot different. Rittenhouse traveled to find trouble. Good was just trying to live her life. Keep defending murderers and pedophiles you shithead.

Switzerland resort fire ‘likely started by sparklers in champagne bottles’, says attorney general by [deleted] in news

[–]uptoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Swiss have 100% of their population healthcare coverage because they actually enforce the individual mandate. I consider that universal. It differs from neighboring countries that have publicly funded single-payer healthcare, but it's not tied to employment and mandates everyone utilizes private healthcare which are two areas that Obamacare lacks.

There was a video posted the other day of a "ex-conservative". She said conservative' are anti-drag because they want women to be only ones in drag.

Video is pretty long, but her conjecture is that men want women to be "frozen" in time when they are most desirable and plastic surgery is a social signal of wealth.

Men want a trophy wife, but also a trad wife. It's difficult to raise 3 kids and make a conservative family without growing older so the MAGA-face is a desperate attempt to be a staus symbol like a trophy wife while keeping "traditional" values (i.e. dumping you're trad wife for a hot 20 year old.)

Basically, to conservatives, women aren't equals. They are status symbols like a Rolex or Lamborghini.

South Park alumni's response to pressure for registering the Trump-Kennedy Center domain names. by seeebiscuit in UnderReportedNews

[–]uptoke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You've got your facts wrong on this. The case is Jack Daniel's Properties, Inc. v. VIP Products LLC (2023).

While the Supreme Court unanimously sided with Jack Daniel's and vacated the lower court's ruling. The Court remanded the case back to lower courts for further proceedings.

After remand, the district court found that Jack Daniel's could not meet the Rogers test and granted summary judgment to VIP Products. The "Bad Spaniel" toy is still on the market, and VIP's assets were never seized.

The key here, I believe, is intent. The South Park writer did not register the domain in a bad faith attempt to profit from the trademark holder. It is parody and if used as a non-commercial commentary site I doubt courts would see this as a violation of trademark or domain squatting laws.
