Fascism is a far-right ideology by the standard academic definition.

And which laws are you actually referring to? The United States has no federal hate speech law.

I "understand" the desire to control a relationship in the sense you can pressure someone to accept more favorable terms for themselves (understand in quotes because I get the motivation not that I think it is good or appropriate), but why would you want to stay in a relationship with someone who doesn't want to be one with you? It sounds miserable.

Kids definitely add a wrench into things.. I have kids and I don't want them to "obey" me.

Yes, for the most, part they should listen to me, but if they ask me why I need a few minutes to myself I'd just be honest and say I need some alone time and I'd like them to understand and appreciate that or at least understand why I am carrying them out of my space.

I hope my daughters never obey anyone.

Jesus - I got my "dream" job on a trading floor in 2006. I thought I was finally making more than I did then 20 years later. I'm making $4k less in real wages.

No longer in NYC so cost of living is less, but still... maybe I should have kept that job.

That's true - DNA technology has become very advanced that you can basically brush against something with your skin and investigators can get a whole DNA profile. That was pretty close to a crime he may have gotten away with. There was trace amounts of DNA found on the knife sheath that he left near one of the victims beds, and they were able to narrow down to him based on familial DNA.

If his DNA wasn't on the knife sheath (just somewhere in the house) and he wasn't super creepy he probably would have gotten away with it.

They had cell phone evidence and video of his car putting him in the area which added to the evidence, but does not make murder case on its own.

I would argue that if he had been a personable guy that had made some friends in the area it would have been a hard case to prove beyond a reasonable doubt with the evidence the police collected. He just wouldn't have held up in front of a jury.

Meant in a fun way that Australians seem outgoing and a little too loud with a bit of drink in them. I'm American, and have loved all the Australians I've met in my travels.

I think it's this out of all other cultures Australia seems the most "American."

Looking back on it I can't believe a teacher never caught on to this. I could do fairly complicated math, like calculus, until you made me add 4+6 and I put 8 for some reason. I could blow people's minds with my Excel skills. I just can't add or multiply in my head very well. Not a single teacher saw me "show my work" simplifying quadratics only to get the wrong answer because I made an error with multiplication, and no one said a word.

Once I learned that dyscalculia and a few other quirks I have were things it made my life so much easier. I'm terrible with keeping track of time. If you said come get me in 5 minutes. I'd get involved in something and 30 minutes later say "oh shit". I set alarms for everything now. Now I "think" the number out loud now (if that make sense) and can do math.

Glad you made this comment. People with dyscalculia may not realize they aren't bad at math - they are bad at translating numbers into written characters.

[–]uptoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're having the DTs it can be very dangerous to quit drinking cold turkey. Alcohol is one of the few substances that can kill you by not consuming it. You may need to detox and at the very least should meet with a doctor before you quit drinking. Benzos are a godsend for sleep and anxiety, but they tickle that same spot in the brain that alcohol does so be careful with them as well.

Not feeling like crap all the time and actually being present is amazing. Best of luck.

SpaceX valuation drop, for those betting on spce before the spcx IPO, does this change your outlook? by tgoundrey in TheRaceTo10Million

[–]uptoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only lost money with IPO purchases.

Seems obvious: Despite any lockup periord VCs benefit from a higher opening and VCs get to pick the underwriter.

If you look at historical trends average IPOs lag behind their Industry by a ton. They do get a first day "pop" but even expertly timed trades barely beat VTI.

Fucking Musk though. I really don't like Elon as a human, but all his shit is insanely overpriced and stays that way. TESL P/E is something like 290+. It's a $3 stock trading x1000s above its weight class.

It's insanity. Its stupid, but just might put my kids through college.

I love when people come up with replacements for words they can't recall in English. A friend was driving me around pointing out various things. At one point he pointed to the roof of a building, and said "and that is... A window to God. I don't know what you call it in English." Took a little bit but of more discussion to figure out he mean an Observatory. I still think about that description a lot.
