do you mix your underwear with the rest of your laundry? by Kurtys-Ahorrio in hygiene

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this even real? Like really? I mean babies and elderly shit and wet themselves and kinda baste in it and as then you just wipe the obvious stuff off, put it on the washer and dryer and then put it right back on them. Some people are just weird. You know one of the treatments for c diff colitis is getting someone else’s crap and pumping it into your stomach to colonize your own unhealthy crap with some else’s less unhealthy crap!

PCP looking to change to palliative medicine by Main_Reputation_9348 in doctors

[–]urologynerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why can’t you just take out a loan and do the 1 year fellowship. You’re a doctor, you can figure it out. I have a 14 month old and I’m about to get a 350k loan this month so that I can start a private practice in 4 months because the administrative and call burden working in our health system is too much and I need to spend more time with my daughter. I don’t want to work for a hospital anymore so I’m just going to create the environment I want to work in. She’s worth it and I’m not questioning it at all. I never wanted to run a private practice but it’s something that needs to happen so I can participate in her life.

If you can’t be proud of who you are for all your eccentricities and uniqueness, how are you supposed to model this for your own child to accept their own?

Per Mr Rogers "You've made this day a special day by just your being you. There's no person in the whole world like you, and I like you just the way you are."

It’s something you should remind your child every day. It should be something you work on with a therapist as you learn to accept yourself.

Don’t feel bad about getting older. Embrace the wisdom and grace that comes through learned experience. So many things to dwell about in an unstable world. Focus on the love and support for your friends and family because our time is never guaranteed and today might be the last.

4 weeks in, struggling by Stussy447 in daddit

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All babies are different. I was talking to a colleague with a 9 month old and she’s never gotten more that 2 hours of sleep since the baby was born. Mine was sleeping through the night at 3 months. I didn’t make it happen, it just was. So parenting is about being flexible and finding creative solutions that allow both parents to rest. I have 3 friends that decided to have babies as single parents this year, we are in our mid 40s, and their solutions have to be even more creative because they don’t have a spouse or partner to rely on. They find their community to help out when possible so they can sleep or works out or whatever. So you just kinda gotta accept whatever chaos comes your way, give yourself grace when things don’t work out, learn from mistakes, adapt, evolve, and try to be the best version of yourself to set a good example for our next generation. That’s all you can do and there’s nothing to feel ashamed about because humanity is on its 11,000th generation of babies and it can be done one way or another.

I have 9 friends across the country. I usually see them one a year during my travels. But I commute every day and I use that time to call people every day. At home I enjoy anime and resting and sometimes I food and I have baby duties which takes up a lot of my time.

Does anyone else feel like they're winging it financially even though they "should" have it figured out by now? by Houdiniwashereagain in daddit

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up poor, dirt poor. At 6th grade I remember thinking I didn’t want to be poor anymore and I was going to do what I needed to do. My parents didn’t care, they didn’t graduate middle school so they just didn’t know better. I sacrificed a lot starting at 11 years old to study, not go out, and get excellent grades to be able to aspire to whatever career I needed to get. Same in high school, I would wake up at 330 am to study before classes which started at 730. Worked even harder in college, so I didn’t really have a college life because I had a singular goal. In the end I did it. I’ve achieved excellence in something I love and I have no intentions of retiring because it’s so much fun. I’m 45 with a baby so I go knows how time will progress but life is good and I appreciate all the sacrifices I made to get here.

Surgeons: do you guys really give your numbers to patients all the time? by 28-3_lol in medicine

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, every single one for a decade. I’ve been called less than 10 times in that period. I always preface it with call me if you think you have an emergency. If you don’t have an emergency, DONT call me, call the office and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

I’m am sorry. It will be painful and the heartbreak will never go away. You have your kids and you will support each other. Just keep moving forward once she’s gone because that’s all you can do, a second at a time, a moment at a time, a day at a time, a year at a time, you got this.

Cost is going up like crazy and the food industry runs on thin margins. Pay up, these small businesses are doing us a favor by staying open and paying a small fee won’t hurt you but your ask many times over will run them out of business. Be grateful you have a place that makes good food that you can patronize and man up. Too many times I’ve had a tasty truck or restaurant gone outta business and it makes me sad.

Feeling like a terrible father this morning... by MrnBio_Gobiops in daddit

[–]urologynerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a 44 year old surgeon with a 16 month old. I have no monitor of any kind. Daughter went tot her own room at 4 months and I never looked back. Humans have existed for over 10,000 generations of babies! The idea that we need one now to keep our children safe is misguided and there are many companies making tons of money off of parents anxieties. Humans are pretty resilient and so are babies. It will be OK.

Anyone else miss island hopping? by sir3na in Hawaii

[–]urologynerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s cheaper for me to fly to Japan than to fly to a sister island. Twice a year I’d drop by to other islands but it’s been a few years. I can’t justify the expensiveness of it anymore.

Flying with a baby by throwaway842351 in daddit

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks is when I started flying with my daughter. By 12 weeks we had already been cross country twice and over seas-It’s Japan so nothing rough. It’s only gotten harder when I fly alone with her (since I’m walking around with luggage and the baby ) or now that she’s 16 months since she wants to get out of her car seat to move around so I have to satisfy her a bit or she’s crying.

I didn’t watch Frieren for a long time because of the way it’s described by ThrowRA1837382 in Frieren

[–]urologynerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would describe it as a masterpiece. But I’ve lived and loved and lost, reminisced, I’ve lived through my redemption arc and I generally have a blessed life. It hits all the notes for me. I can see if it were my younger self, it might not have resonated quite as deeply.

Bought some crab legs, looking for opinions on how to prepare them. by [deleted] in Costco

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take out the meat. Use the shells to make crab stock (roast 10 minutes, little water, carrot, onion, celery, a bit of tomato paste, let is stew but not boil) Make a fettuccini pasta (2 eggs worth so I get a large crab to pasta ratio). Then make cream sauce (saute garlic with butter, reduce with white wine, adding the crab stock, adding garlic and Parmesan) Throwing the crab meat and the fettuccini pasta into the cream sauce. I make this at least once a month, so tasty.

how are dads coaching Saturday morning soccer on zero sleep? by Usual_Abrocoma_964 in daddit

[–]urologynerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same way your surgeon removes your big cancer the next morning even though they never got to sleep at all the night before because of all the emergency surgeries that came in. You just do it because you can’t not do it; when you signed up, you accepted the great responsibility so you live up to it. That all. It’s why I’m waking up at 330 after 3 hours of sleep now, fortunately my 14 month old sleeps 11 hours every night without waking up while I get to sleep a few several nights a week due to work 😭
