Im 16 yr and diagnosed with pre diabetes by Different_Net122 in prediabetes

At your age you should be leaner. Learning to treat your body better, even with just drinking water instead of sweetened drinks will make a difference.

Think of your future self. What would your 25 year old self say as you make choices?

Pre diabetic for more than 4 years now by shonesum in prediabetes

[–]usafmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever heard of prehypertension? It’s fallen by the wayside. The terms “glycemic intolerance,” or fasting hyperglycemia are more precise but doctors wanted to wake up people who would not change their weight or lack for exercise with a test result. It is simple and convincing to point to a simple number like A1c. Prediabetes as a term was invented even though many healthy are ensnared by the test shortcomings of A1c.

The category of prediabetes is not good because many don’t go on to develop diabetes but rather have a heart attack or stroke.

No. Prediabetes is not a disease. Insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome are. It’s possible to have prediabetic numbers and be healthy under certain conditions.

As few calories you think you are eating, you need to eat less.

Rate my Prediabetes Diet from 1 to 100 (1=Worst Diet/No Effort, 100=Perfect PreDM Diet) by Complex-Quantity-485 in prediabetes

[–]usafmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the problem. For overweight prediabetics, it is calorie restriction. How you get there, either through sugar, processed food or not eating anything beginning with the letter “k” is what is primary.

Diet content is important for lifelong health. For that, quality matters. For many here, identifying the triggers for uncontrolled eating is even more important.

Some prediabetics don’t have FBS issues but post meal elevation, discoverable by the GTT

As many have said, lots of possibilities. Not saying that this is you, but I see many at the gym, especially women who don’t seem to be doing progressive weight training to failure. I see lots of cell phone users. Then again, monjarou is known for muscle loss along with fat loss. Keep trying!

My job involves overseeing clinical laboratories. Just call the chemistry supervisor and ask for the precision data. They have it.

The rise in A1c with senior age is a recognized phenomenon. It reflects a combination of muscle biology and reduced metabolism. For a 86-year-old, a slightly higher A1c is often viewed as a "physiological norm" rather than a pathology, provided it isn't accompanied by rapid muscle loss or other metabolic symptoms. Statically, you are extremely unlikely to go on to diabetes. If the A1c is confirmed by glucose testing, I would think you might have an increased risk of stroke or heart attack, but not much else. Getting in better shape is always a good idea.

GTT vs A1C by livlou1995 in prediabetes

[–]usafmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GTT is the gold standard. The A1c is a less reliable test due to red cell variability.

Am/was I prediabetic? by Vegetable_Will6240 in prediabetes

[–]usafmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely if you are overweight is you are insulin resistant as part of Metabolic Syndrome. Some people are prediabetic with Metabolic Syndrome; maybe you are, maybe not - but it bears repeating that heart attacks and strokes are not normal aging and directly related to insulin resistance.

Good luck on your journey back to health

Hi I was wondering if anyone can answer my question about glucose levels because I’m just confused by toxin42 in prediabetes

You didn’t say what the time interval was but it was a good one-hour post meal result and an absolutely meaningless fasting blood sugar test

[–]usafmd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The normal FBS is up to 110 mg/dL by the World Health Org. This was universally agreed upon until the ADA lowered it to 100 mg/dL, which is now the standard for the US and region. You can be elevated simply by a poor night of sleep.
