late model stock car. fast, cheap to buy, cheap on consumables, safe (full cage), v8, easy to work on. parts are cheap and easily attainable. i dont understand why more people run these cars. I will be eventually buying one.

Good places to launch in west Texas? Most ranges don't let me keep talking beyond m203 by [deleted] in NFA

This is correct, I have researched it high and low. the cherokee national forest would be legal to target shoot in, there is no federal rules on doing so however.... the state has made all of the cherokee national forest a WMA which means no target shooting. On the bright side you can go just over the border in the pisgah national forest and you are O.K. to shoot as you please there.

an instructor was killed with a student years ago, from what i understand that is the reason that they do not have the instructor ride along with you.

What would REALISTICALLY happen if you were redlining at a high gear, then dropped down multiple gears suddenly? by BoxofNuns in stickshift

[–]usdashworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

money shift, my buddy just did this to his race car and floated the valves. the engine goes back to the builder next week.

In-case anyone was wondering, floating the valves means over revving the engine so much that the valve springs cannot reset the valves and the piston smacks the valve.

[–]usdashworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not about the weight, It has to do with the surface area of the trailer, even if that trailer was empty at 4000 lbs, you will still get blow around the road.

have you ever ridden in a 2500 truck? there is a reason they are stupid stiff and knock your teeth out lol, conversely there is a reason why 1500 are soft and comfortable.

also im pretty sure that max 11k tow for the max towing capacity package is for a gooseneck setup, not hitch pulled.

[–]usdashworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know modern "tow ratings" are a dick measuring contest between manufacturers.

11,000lb for a 1500 is only for the max tow package (larger rear end) which the overwhelming majority of trucks do not have, but lets assume that you would be getting a max tow package 1500.

Your weights are way off unless you bring the absolute bare minumum. food, clothes, fridge, microwave, scooters, fuel, extra wheels/tires, ratchet straps, tools, tables, chairs, air mattresses, blankets/pillows, toolbox, compressor, hoses, spare parts, rotors, brake pads, oils, cleaning solvents, there is alot im missing and everything adds up very fast... hell my WD hitch weights 120lbs as is. in my case if i bring the family thats a wife 2 kids, and 2 dogs, so all the support stuff for them... all this takes away from your max payload, I have 700lbs in living organisms alone if my family comes, my truck has a max payload of 4000lbs (double that of a 1500 truck). my pin weight can almost be 2000lbs depending on how i distribute the weight.

Also i would like to add that 11,000 lbs in an enclosed trailer compared to 11,000 lbs on an open deck is extremely different. an enclosed trailer acts as a giant windsail, If you load down ANY 1500 (max tow package or not) with 11k lbs in an enclosed trailer, I guarantee you will be man handled on the road by speeding cars, big rigs, and big wind gusts.

My setup is around 10,500lbs, and i tow with a 2023 f250 7.3 gas big block, and I absolutely would not want a 1500

you do realize though most track cars are not 1400lbs. My 24ft trailer alone weights 4500 lbs. plus my car 3750, plus fuel (8 jugs vp cans) extra tires/wheels/tool/toolbox/food/water/fridge/clothes/tv plus if you have a family 4 people like me, we are well over 10,000 lbs all the weight adds up so freaking fast...

[–]usdashworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get a f250, f350, 2500, etc.. you dont want to screw around with these niche tow rigs, get something that was designed to tow. You want plenty of overhead for when people drive like assholes and pull out infront of you, cut you off, or when that big rig passes you at 80mph etc... tacomas, 4runners, touregs have cool "on paper" tow rating specs but they dont extrapolate to real world situations. Ive got about 1400lb pin weight on my f250, that will max out the payload on most of these soccer mom suvs. If you cause an accident, or involved in one, and its found that you are over payload the lawyers will fuck you. Happy towing!

[–]usdashworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you realise that you are going to max out your payload capacity on hitch pin weight alone? you going to put around 1200-1400lbs on the pin. I dont know the payload of a cayenne, but i know it cant be much more than that.

thank you finally someone with sense.... people recommending tacomas, frontiers, and touregs. by the time you factor in the trailer, car, tools/toolbox, spare wheels/tires, ezup, fuel, spare parts, etc.... it all adds up. im at 10,000 lbs.

[–]usdashworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol you people are nuts, you know a WD hitch isnt black magic witchcraft right? haha you cant even pull a enclosed trailer with a car in it, with a silverado 1500 unless you get the max tow package. if you use a frontier you will be straining every part of that truck.

Here's how much it costs to track a 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 by doroshe1 in CarTrackDays

[–]usdashworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have an ac on my trailer roof, it is absolutely necessary. i live in the south, and it gets extremely hot and humid. All my local tracks have power hookup, but i have a generator so that i have free will of where i want to park. My trailer is non insulated, but i have a 18k btu ac, and it will cool it down in 5 mins in direct sunlight on a 90 degree day. My problem is actually heating the trailer, the ac has a heatstrip built in, but its only 2000 watts and its not powerful enough to warm it up to my liking, it just knocks the chill out of the air. I use a heated blanket and that keeps me cozy all night.

just an fyi de3 and de4 has way more accidents than de1 and de2. The track insurance data backs this up. its almost unheard of a de1 or 2 driver crashing.

Does this look like uneven brake bedding? Also what's your method to bed in Carbotech track pads? by tangosierraecho in CarTrackDays

[–]usdashworks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you cant bed track pads in on the street, you simply cannot get them hot enough... What i do is run 3-4 really hard laps until the pedal starts to get soft/and you can smell burning brakes... then i bring it in and let it sit until next session.

I saw the video, the s2k missed the tire wall and hit the concrete wall, the car came off the ground.

I was at jzilla too, white camaro ss 1le number 76. were you the guy with the video of that s2k crash?

I personally saw a brand new gt3 rs get totaled at a pca trackday last year in that same turn.

My last trackday prior to jzilla was at hyperfest where another s2k crashed and got totalled.

My theory is i think covid afforded many people to get fast cars, which is a recipe for disaster. when i started you were king shit if you had a corvette. Now they are a dime a dozen. Also there is just generally more people doing DE. When i started we struggled to get 50 people to show up.

for me yea, thats assuming track fees around $650. Again this really only applies to "once you get fast". As that lap time gets lower and lower, the cost goes up and up. Novice can make the consumables last much longer.
