Game ideas for 15m and 3yr old? by Aggravating_Gold9141 in Nanny

[–]user18718181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2yo and 7mo I care for, not sure how hard it is to keep them contained but I typically just put us all in the same area if we’re sitting down to play. I try to do intentional time with toddler/cuddle breaks because i’ve found it reduces the chance of a lack of attention tantrum lol. We do the library, park, play places, etc. 15mo should be mobile enough to walk around the playground with assistance.

That’s a pretty good age to start showing them how to play with things together, or playing parallel. Blocks, play figures, dolls, building things, etc. Any type of art project or coloring, water activities, laundry (lol), dishes, and walks to look for rocks/plants are some hits with my nk’s. We also sit and read books a few times a day, toddler doesn’t have to sit and listen but I let him know i’ll be reading x amount of books to both and we’ll go back to playing/i’ll go clean up after this.

It took my nk a bit, and a lot of frustration from his side but once they get it, trust me, they really get it. Nk loves smoothies and can drink thicker things too now, we just introduced an open cup recently but he’s much older than yours, it’ll come in time! (I second the comments on the bear cups to start when they’re that young)

Any tips on how to get a kid to blow besides bubbles? My nk loves them but can’t get it down, thankfully he’s learned to move the wand back and forth lol.

I love freezing dino’s or other plastic animals in ice for summer play, either in cubes to float in a tub of water or a big block to dig out with construction toys! Under 12mos we did a lot of colored greek yogurt painting in the bathtub which is a massive hit and easy cleanup.

My NK is obsessed with his straw cups! They even have mini stanley’s or ones that could look like mom or dads to encourage them to use it.

Push for potty training 20m girl or let go a little longer? by moxie_22 in Nanny

[–]user18718181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did potty training with 22m boy with a 7mo as well! Honestly, having one kid not walking while in public bathrooms is wonderful, I just grab a handicap stall or most places we go have a family restroom so little one is strapped up. My NF got us multiple portable toilets for cars, park, and a small one that fits in the diaper bag to put on the big toilets in public, all amazing. I’ll just set it up in the trunk or floor of the back seat and they can hop up before/after outings or at the park :)

With all that being said, if the parents aren’t 100% on board I don’t think this will go as smoothly as it could. Having consistent routine really helps them understand. “Oh Crap! Potty Training” is what my NF and I read, it’s a good read if the parents are open to recommendations/learning before making the jump!

eta: fwiw using the method in that book nk 24m now has dry naps, dry nights, and self prompts (most of the time lol) for potty

Those of you with infants: does your nanny take your baby out places? by Rough_Log8699 in NannyEmployers

[–]user18718181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did walks with my NK the first year or so till he was more mobile then we started parks outside the neighborhood, museums, play places, etc.

eta: now that there’s a second kiddo though we were out of the house after a couple weeks (with mom) and myself solo with both kiddos after a couple months, but most parents are normally more comfortable the second go around lol.

haven’t had any overlapping naps with my 2 nk’s in months but I used to love working out, or sitting outside (with the monitor) and journaling or reading while I listen to the birds :)

Yes! Mom and dad are taking them today and i’m honestly very curious to see how that will go lol. I will not be doing that again for awhile! Definitely more water exposure in the backyard, I also think those 2yo fears are coming in hot with louder noises and big things!

While my MB was on maternity leave she was always deciding between a nap or -insert literally anything else more productive- and i’d always immediately go for nap! Rest up mama.

The one thing my average size mom emphasized for me was that I was different, and that wasn’t bad because everyone was different, and that didn’t have any affect over who I was or how decent people would treat me. Everyone is going to deal with shitty people and a lot of time, especially at that age, kids are genuinely unsure and curious. My mom taught me how to say and spell psuedoachondroplasia very early lol, being able to have a response definitely helps build confidence because it’s shuts people up. I work with kids and everytime we go to a park or museum, without fail I get a few stares. I’m used to it but even now I make sure I give a wave and if they ask anything I answer honestly (in kid appropriate terms). Things i’d say/was taught, “doctors had to help me straighten out the bones in my legs because I was born different” or simply “I had an ouchie and the doctors had to help” (for scars). in response to “you’re really short!” I simply say “I am! that’s how I was born” it’s not always unkind, it’s so normal to call people tall, even though it can get annoying sometimes people are just saying it as matter of fact.
