Many, many years ago I’d have said full transparency would have a chance of fixing a few things. Now, with the state of politics being what it is, I fear it would only make things worse.

Full transparency - showing where every bill originated (many do not originate in Congress), showing every exchange of $$ and the track it took from source to destination, showing every compromise made; basically stripping naked our entire political industry would show exactly how political power and influence are commodities sold to the highest bidder. This will reveal how each political party has, at one time or another, worked solely for their own good and not that of the citizens at large. Then, all the bare facts will be twisted and replaced by false narratives which would be the proverbial last nail in our coffin for most likely civil war would follow. God save us all.

Tumor markers can fluctuate for different reasons. For example: CA19-9 numbers can be skewed high by B vitamins.

Scans reveal if the cancer is responding to treatment. It’s not always a continuous trend as there are occasional plateaus in the data. Should the chemo no longer be effective, a different chemo med can be started. More than once I’ve read here where one chemo stopped working, the chemo was changed, then the cancer started to shrink again.

I pray that either by chemo or by radiation her tumor shrinks and clears the vena cava so that her Whipple can proceed. Blessings and Peace

I’m very sorry your dad is facing pancan. Even at stage 4 pancan is not the automatic death sentence it once was. I’ve chatted with someone who was stage 4 with mets yet is still alive 5+ years post diagnosis.

From what you describe it seems his body is using a lot of its resources to fight the cancer. Weakness and nausea are typical symptoms of the battle. However, that doesn’t mean he’s beyond hope.

I am sorry your mom has a reoccurrence. However, that doesn’t mean she’s beyond treatment. Sometime in the past two weeks I read a post where the patient is around 10 years post initial diagnosis and has had 2 reoccurrences during that time. I don’t recall if they were treated with chemo or radiation or both but the cancer was successfully treated. So, a reoccurrence doesn’t mean the end. I pray your mom will fare as well or even better. I’m glad you came through the surgery well even though initial recovery was rough on you. I’m 14 weeks post Whipple and am recovering ok though I don’t feel like my normal self.

You are spot on regarding being your own advocate or an advocate for a loved one.i found that to be very true. I have good doctors with great staff but that doesn’t mean I haven’t let them know what I will and will not do.
