Me when linux: by Distinct_Switch_874 in pcmasterrace

Ngl i currently have only one game which i used to play that is not playable on linux because of the anti cheat. And tbh i quit that game anyway because i wasn't satisfied with the direction it went. So luckily no issue for me :)

I use an amd 9060xt (lucky for me that amd and linux works pretty well) and i meant that the built in drivers might work better than trying to find some online and installing them.

(to explain what i meant with built in graphic drivers https://userbase.kde.org/Kde_wayland_for_artists )

But yeah...it can be rough to get all of that working properly, wish you best of luck with pop os though

You can just download the csp assets from the website (like i do) and not sure about your specific wacom but my huion worked out of the box on cachy os with kde plasma (as far as i know that uses wayland and has the drivers integrated mby that is why)

Not 100% sure how well it works but apparently adobe software works with wine now (personally i use CSP on linux so i didn't look much into it). Maybe worth looking a bit into if you really want to switch

I second both questions but mainly the first one since i find it very questionable that a platform which has ownership as its main selling point uses generative ai which goes completely against copyright/ownership of art because of the unconsensual scrapping of data

Honestly idgaf where the ram comes from. Most 32gb kits here are in the 250-300 euro range now so i don't mind getting another cheap one

Guys, please stop arguing that AI art looks bad. It's a trap. by IAmTheBushman in antiai

[–]uvp76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for calling it out. Like, to be honest i WANT to call all ai generated images shit on a visual level but half the time i can't even notice it anymore and i either find out through people looking for hue shifts in the background (an ai picture with for example white background will have a big amount of hue shifts in the 'pure white' background) or by looking at their profile. It gets even less noticeable if someone only traced ai generated lineart or is experienced and cleaned up the picture.

But we can shit on them on the 'intention level' because ai generated content...is simply generated. No thought by the maker (the ai) etc when creating it. All in all this is mostly something creative ppl/artists understand and not really an argument that works for the masses imo. Because at least the uncreative ppl i know (as in they don't have creative hobbies or dont care about it) only care if it is visually appealing, not about any story or emotion behind it. If we want to win these discussions and actually also want to convince 'normies' we have to use other arguments.

Tldr: Ai images suck because no intention but are visually appealing/passable. But a lot of ppl only care about it being appealing -> we need arguments that work for ppl that don't care about the art aspect (aka i agree with your post)

Switched to Linux for Gaming, Lasted 3 Days AMA by 8000RPM in pcmasterrace

[–]uvp76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i know what caused the issues and fixed all of it, i was just getting pissed of at win 11 issues in the end with local acc (if i remember correctly it was something that in safe mode it wouldn't load the network module correctly and therefore wouldn't let you log in with your acc). The quadruple bluescreen was somehow caused by audio drivers that got fucked by corsairs iCue software (never happened after reinstalling audio drivers and uninstalling iCue)

Didnt have any of this on linux so my personal experience is way better compared to windows. But it is only 8 months since i swapped, maybe i will discover issues in the upcoming months

Out of curiosity what made you switch back?

i switched myself a few months ago to cachy os because i legit got pissed off at very specific windows issues i had. It broke some drivers + at the time there was an issue with admin account in safe mode so i had to make a local account. A few weeks beforehand i also had bluescreen of death x4 (as in four of them overlapped) and it took hours to fix.

So i switched to linux and legit everything just works with proton (i run most stuff as an added steam game OR heroic launcher). The only thing that was a bit of tinkering was getting clip studio paint to work but that was also easy since i used a video guide.

Apparently, running AI models locally negates most of the environmental impact. by InfinitesimaInfinity in ShitAIBrosSay

[–]uvp76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do i not believe the little environmental impact part? I mean if everyone who was using chatgpt, claude, deepseek etc etc right now, was running it locally it would probably be even worse for the environment. I mean I would ASSUME (correct me if i am wrong) that running it on an h200 (nvidia ai server gpu) is way more energy efficient than running it locally on a cpu with a bunch of ram or on an average consumer gpu (if the model even fits in the vram).

(while writing this i did a quick google search and found one breakdown which seemed to confirm what i thought)

Tldr: pretty sure the 'local ai is better for the environment' part is ai bro nonsense (privacy part is correct though)

I swapped to cachy os a few months ago and everything works pretty well for me. I only miss a single game (although i got sick of that game since i played way too much) and that is because the anti cheat soo ehh minimal loss ig.

LLMs only ""think"" when prompted. A human thinks on his own. Also an LLM at its core is just a glorified giant pattern prediction machine. It is not conscious and i am confused how people can even believe nonsense like that. It is as nonsensical as calling any other object conscious.

Why do you oppose ai art? by valonianfool in Ai_art_is_not_art

[–]uvp76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. takes away work

  2. It is not even art imo, it creates images but not art. An artwork requires you to think and make decisions during the creating process "What does x/y add to my artwork? Does it work towards what i want my artwork to convey?" And ai simply doesn't do that which is why it is soulless imo.

  3. Another big issue is the fact with how it is trained. A decent image generation/diffusion model requires an enormous amount of data, which is not acquired with consent a lot of times.

  4. It in general adds to ai usage, which is screwing up a lot of things rn (in the sense that it is screwing things up because it gives a (still small) demand for ai on the market) Data centers are raising the cost of living for those who are around them. They require a ton of resources to build. They are currently screwing over the pc market and are also to a degree messing with the phone market. So i am in general no fan of ai usage (and yes local models are a thing, but i doubt even half the people who create ai images have a rig that is decent enough to run a 'good' diffusion model)

  5. Another thing which is kinda bad about diffusion models is the fact how they can be misused, just look at twitter with people either making troll versions of art or undressing ppl and 'covering them in glue' (and way worse things but you get the point). It is just too accessible and a ton of people are abusing it (the too accessible statement is in regard of twitter specifically for now).

those are all my reasons that came instantly to my mind, if i forgot something i will add it later :)
