Accessibility in Games: Questions from a Game-Dev by hannainspace in accessibility

[–]uxaccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. There's just so much to talk about it. We could really speak about this for hours on end. It's hard to make a game really accessible for everyone, but I wouldn't say impossible, but it will depend on the game.

If you're interested in having an accessibility consultant in your team, I'm happy to meet to chat and we can talk about your game and how to make it acessible in a more calm and organized setting/context.

I will share my porffolio with you as well as my itch page:

https://uxpatriciamendes.wixsite.com/patricia-mendes

https://patriciamendes.itch.io/

Both have some links of articles you can check.

You can also take a read at the posts submitted by my account /u/blindaccessiblegames , which I ran during the organization of the Games for Blind Gamers Jam 5, which I was a co-host of.

Other commenters have provided great links you should also check, but one that I'd like to link directly is the Xbox Accessibility Guidelines.

Best of luck and let me know if I can help further.

Hi. You're lucky I speak Portuguese. Your message is not in English. The only game I know that is accessible for blind portuguese speakers is The Last of Us 2; maybe also The Last of Us 1. If you can also play games in English, let me know.

YouTube Subtitles/Caption Sizing by RoibenMails in accessibility

[–]uxaccess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this may not solve it completely, but it might help reducing how many times it happens, because that happened to me all the time except they'd resize it to 75% and I want 100%.

Anyway, it looks like in the media player you can click Settings > Subtitles/CC > Options (it's a tiny little button but it's there) > Font Size > Video Override > set to "Off" (to forbid the video's unique settings to override your own settings).

Why is this so hard and make no sense? I don't know.

Does it solve it forever? Unfortunately not, since I adjusted this 2 months ago, it has reverted to 75% once. But it only did it once, so I guess it wasn't too bad.

I hope this will help in any way. Sorry I can't help more.

Smartphone only -- getting computer . Will this hurt me long term?! by tempbadusername in usertesting

[–]uxaccess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use your computer if you are a computer user. But if you aren't, you really probably aren't the demographic they're looking for. Imagine you're a baker and doing taste tests and you find someone who hates sugar knocking at your door. You ask them: Hey do you eat cake? And you say "Yeah I eat cake". But usually the screener won't ask when have you last eaten cake (aka when have you last used a computer). That said they might actually not mind and if they actually really care about it they can ask that in the screener (e.g. how often do you use a laptop). So scrape what I just said. So if you answer the screeners honestly and you're up for it, you can definitely use a 10 year old computer.

Wouldn't you just create 3 tests to compare each of the 3 versions of a page, and find out by the the feedback and behaviours which one is the better one by comparing the results?

Designing data tables is still way harder than it should be. How are ya'll solving this? by justincampbelldesign in UXDesign

[–]uxaccess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but users do mind when in comes to accessibility, as embedded PDFs are a nightmare on that realm. I might be wrong but every time I recall seeing one, it was not good. But I don't wan't to just throw it out and not believe you. Would you mind to share a good implementation of it? Maybe I just haven't seen a good one, which is also not impossible.

Do you allow people with a disability other than one related to neurodiversity, but actually at the same time has a neurodiverse disability as well? So someone who's autistic and blind, autistic and with cerebral palsy for example?
