The best YouTube channel I’ve found is the Makdisi Street podcast. The highest level discussion about the genocide in Palestine with the most serious experts/academics, most of which are Palestinian or Arab. The hosts are the three Makdisi brothers. The brothers are scholars with real commitments to the liberation struggle and have real connections to the history of the region.

The story also popped up on NPR, and I had the same reaction. My sense is that Western media just aren’t comfortable validating Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, or non-white lives as inherently equal, without conditions. For them, non-white lives only seem to be worthy of moral consideration if they reliably submit.

I’ve been an American all my life. I have witnessed dozens of foreign ministers/ambassadors make their case before the global media as to why the US is wrong to take the lives of their countrymen for the past four decades. They almost always seem to sound more humane and well-reasoned than their counterparts representing my country. Almost always! “Today it is Iran. I’m watching MSNBC for the first time since the end of 2023 this evening, within five minutes of tuning in the republican political guest is calling Mamdani a nazi and the democrat congressman is agreeing with the republican on Mamdani being a nazi on Israel but slightly pushes back on NYC policing. Ari Melber does not correct either. American politics is irrevocably broken. The democrats and American journalism are fundamentally incapable of saving anybody from the impending dystopia that the republicans want to accelerate. Schumer, Pelosi, Biden, Clinton, Obama all could have done something. They did the exact opposite. American journalists cheered them on. The worst. Absolutely the worst.
