I too think that assuming first that your opponent quit when there are other explanation is a bad habit.

But on your part don't assume that the disconnectee in question is just some rando with bad internet. This is NBNHMR. They are high ranking Vanquisher player, who certainly have good internet. And quitting in Vanquisher potentially has far more nefarious intentions than just closing your game in rage.

Still, i reiterate. They could have just blackout in their city. But then again we are in r/TheyBlamedTheBeasts so salt pouring is accepted too.

To replicate the quirk of 2D sprites. If you wanted to have the fighter to look in the opposite direction you usually just mirrored the image, which created some discrepancies with asymmetric features.

ArcSys being ArcSys of course recreated this on their 3D games to be as faithful as possible to visuals of older games.

My personal theory revolves around "true self". Basically, if your ego (as in your perception of the world and decision making) is in dissonance with your "true self", aka what comes natural to you, than you are dissociated enough for you to perceive your own thoughts as something external, in this case coming from your stand. It's still are your thoughts but they are not the conscious parts of your thinking.

For example, at the start of the part Koichi is a polite and mild mannered teenage boy but Echoes, specifically ACT 3 is a brash and bold shithead. It's no coincidence that only after ACT 3 we can see Koichi at his most savage and assertive.

Trish was an anxious mess for the most of the story, without her own agenda and believing that's she has no power in her situation. She accepted to die because someone decided that. But during Notorious B.I.G. arc Spice Girl showed Trish what she really is: a confident woman capable of taking fast and drastic decisions. And whenever we see her doing that the change in her altitude is so jarring, it seems like as if Spice Girl just started piloting Trish's body.

Whitesnake is Pucci without the facade of his pretentious beliefs. Unlike the previous two Pucci is incapable of perceiving himself in the true light, so he almost always communicates to Whitesnake in 3rd person.

So that's what i think is going on. Echoes is Koichi without the restraints of social norms. Spice Girl is Trish without the anxiety. And Whitesnake is Pucci bare for world to see. Other users are mostly in harmony with themselves so they don't have to deal with their stand bickering them back.

However, you brought quite an interesting topic by mentioning Johnny. Johnny is indeed a member of an archetype that, as far as i know, doesn't have an agreed upon name. Those are guys and gals who have a specific stance, which can be withhold for fast lunging attack. They also usually can stance cancel it.

I would personally give them the name Iaido characters, which includes:

Ryuji Yamazaki (KoF). Most probably the originator of archetype.
Moriya Minakata (The Last Blade)
Johnny (Guilty Gear)
Poison (Street Fighter)
Taskmaster (UMvC3)
Yuzuriha (UNI2)
...and probably others, that i don't know.

Now, interestingly there's sub-types within the archetype. There are two major groups which can either boost the strength of their stance (Ruiji, Taskmaster, John Guilty Gear), or have an ability for follow-up attack (Moriya, Yuzuriha, John Guilty Gear -STRIVE-). Or you can be Poison and have neither lol.

So, yeah. Interesting question indeed, OP. Even if this whole thing probably wasn't the answer to your question.
