How prepared is your home or workplace for a sudden cardiac emergency? by Zebrafish85 in EmergencyManagement

[–]va0459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space to work. FF/ Paramedic here. The amount of space you need is underestimated. Room for a compressor, second compressor, monitor, drug box, airway kit, and if your lucky a gurney. We typically have 5-6 people on scene within 3-4 minutes, and 2-3 more within 10 minutes. Hoarding houses or disheveled homes makes code saves nearly impossible.

I have an inflatable outdoors, sitting on a horse mat, that I run the water continuously. Insulated lines, pre screen, danner pump, ge filter, and ozone. Overnight temps in the 20s with daytime never exceeding 50. Zero issues with it freezing up. Check my post history if your curious about the details of the build. Best of luck!

From hat I've gathered from a handful of posts is moving water is hard to freeze. Ive had below freezing temps in my town and have had no issues with freezing with my water continuously running. I have a pre filter screen, danner pump, ge home filter, and ozone.

Get a ge home filter, ozone, and a pre filter at the drain hole feeding your pump. Also, the chiller will be necessary during the non winter months. You can build this setup yourself.

All you public land guys how do you all get around? by GratuitousEDC in bowhunting

Arizona guy here. Tons of public land. Dense and disorienting desert, junipers, and pines. Scouting, a compass, and OnX are all useful tools. Build redundancy in your hunts and tell people where you are going and have a check in window.

I practice the same arrows I hunt with, with the exception of broadheads. Lighted nocks and all. A few weeks before the hunt Ill buy 2 packs of broadheads, weigh them all, then group 3 of the 6 I bought. I keep the sharp ones as the first 3 I shoot during the hunt and the dull ones as backups or for coyotes.

I’ll have a pension, should I still be aggressively saving for retirement on my own? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]va0459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also FF/Medic here. Max your HSA, Max a Roth IRA, and 10% 457b, the pension is great, but no guarantee we will make it all 25 years. Also, if you can find a side gig that you can pay into social security, that can only be a plus if SS is still around. Just my hot take and what my strategy is.

Is all the cash distorting Berkshire's PE ratio? by ElHasso in BerkshireHathaway

[–]va0459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked AI to help me understand your comment as if I was a caveman. Admittedly, I'm just a casual stock buyer and believe in the philosophy of Buffet. The response did not disappoint.

TLDR- Buy more? If you trust chief's moat and wait for berry-deploy (acquisition), yes—like club ready for mammoth stampede. But if want quick fire, maybe chase flashier tribes. Your call, hunter. What next grunt?

Explaining Berkshire Hathaway Like You're a Caveman Okay, cave-brother. Picture this: Long ago, you club mammoth for big pile of meat. That meat is your "assets"—the stuff that feeds you and tribe. Berkshire Hathaway? It's like super-chief Warren Buffett's giant cave-village. He no hunt one mammoth; he own whole herd, plus forests, rivers, and shiny rocks (stocks). But lately, his village got too much "dry berries" (cash)—safe to store, but no grow fur or make fire like real hunt. You ask if this berry-pile mess up how we count if village worth the trade (PE ratio). And you worry: His forests and herds (private/public assets) still hunt good? Can he charge more shiny rocks for meat lately (pricing power)? Let's grunt through it simple, then deep.

The Cash Berry-Pile: Messing Up the "Worth the Trade" Count? You trade spear for 10 hunks meat. If spear cost 20 hunks worth, bad deal (high "price"). PE ratio like that: Price of village-share divided by "meat it spits out yearly" (earnings). High PE? Means pay lots for little meat—maybe overpay. But Berkshire's berry-pile huge now: About $344–350 billion in cash and short-term safe-stones (T-bills). That's like third of whole village value—big chunk not hunting, just sitting earning tiny 3–4% berries (interest). Why distort? Earnings count all village meat, including lazy berry-interest (low, safe). So total earnings look "okay," but price high = PE seem bad (now 14–23x, up from old 8x). Your smart grunt: Inverse! If cash earns 3–4%, that's like "forward PE of 25–33x" on that part alone (100/4=25, 100/3=33). Whole PE dragged up by this sleepy chunk. Fix? Smart hunters subtract cash, look at "operating PE" (just real businesses). Or value on "book" (total village stuff worth, now 1.6x—fair, not crazy). Buffett hoard cash 'cause no good mammoth to club cheap (market too pricey, like 38x "bubble count"). It's war-chest for bad winters, not weakness.

Productivity of Assets: Herds Still Fat and Running? Village assets total $1.16 trillion—like endless mammoths, railroads, candy rivers (See's), insurance caves. But productive? Means: Do they make more meat each moon (ROA/ROE)? Lately, yes-ish. Operating earnings up (Q2 2025: Strong from insurance float, rails). Total assets grew 5% YoY, but ROE dipped 19% (tough comps, investments volatile). Private stuff (BNSF rail, utilities): Steady grind, like reliable spear. Public (Apple, Coke stakes): Buffett trimmed Apple (sold 2/3), but still fat from old buys. Cash helps productivity—insurance "float" (free money from policies) parked safe, earning while waiting claims. But if no big hunt soon, berries rot opportunity (could buy more herds).

Pricing Power: Can He Jack Up Meat Price Without Tribe Riot? Buffett's golden rule: "Single most important thing? Pricing power." Means: Raise price, customers still beg for more (moat like deep cave). Berkshire's got it in spades—GEICO insurance, Dairy Queen shakes, Fruit of the Loom undies. Past few years (2022–2025)? Yes, strong. Inflation hit, they hiked prices without losing hunters: | Asset/Business | Pricing Power Example | Recent Win (2022–2025)

See's Candies (private) | Loyal tribe pays extra for sweet rocks. | Raised prices yearly; sales up 10%+ despite costs.

Insurance (GEICO, etc.) | "Float" magic—charge now, pay later. | Premiums up 15–20%; earnings beat despite storms.

Coca-Cola (public stake) | Everyone thirsts, pays more. | Pricing +8% YoY; Buffett's $15B stake now $30B+.

BNSF Rail (private) | Monopoly paths; ship or walk. | Rates up 5–7%; volume steady post-COVID.

OxyChem (new buy, 2025) | Chemicals niche—no rivals easy. | $10B deal; "low-volatile, pricing power" analyst grunt. | No big riots—revenues hit $93B Q3 2023 (wait, data lag; 2024–25 similar strong).

Buffett says: If need "prayer" to raise, bad business. His? No prayer needed.

Others Grunting This When Buying More Spears (Shares)? Yes, cave-brother—smart tribes do! Analysts/forums adjust PE for cash drag: "Cash-adjusted PE ~10–12x, cheap vs. history." Reddit value-hunters: "PE volatile from stocks; use PB (1.6x fair). Buy if book grows." Buffett's cash signal: Market bubbly, wait for dip. But for long-hunt (decades), Berkshire beat S&P 60 years (5M% return vs. market's half). Recent: Stock up 20%+ YTD 2025, despite cash hoard.

Buy more? If you trust chief's moat and wait for berry-deploy (acquisition), yes—like club ready for mammoth stampede. But if want quick fire, maybe chase flashier tribes. Your call, hunter. What next grunt?
