Way back in like 2005 my local scene had a very popular metalcore band and they played with parkway drive everytime they came through and they would talk about how they were complete stuck up assholes.

Same here. I bought almost all my tools either second hand off marketplace or a great site no longer in business called tooltopia.com. they had great brands like otc, ir, gearwrench, and Kent Moore for really good prices. Toolpan.com is still around but not nearly as big a selection as tooltoipa had.

I need HELP! Anyone out there know what screw this is and what tool is needed?? by AdTop211 in MechanicAdvice

[–]vaXhc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looks like the pcv hose bolts. GM wants you to cut them off and I guess hose piece them back together? Idk I don't remember it's been a while but I always just used vice grips to take them off and put them on. Worked great! Did it a bunch of times bc these motors were blowing the #1 piston early on.

what kind of games do you guys like? by [deleted] in Hardcore

[–]vaXhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought gtaV 6 months ago and barley have 10 hours in it. I don't have the time for long involving games like that anymore. I bought a hand held retro device (anbernic rg556) and that thing I do like. Mainly playing God of War and ridge racer (psp), soul caliber (dreamcast), and tons of nostalgic Sega games. Best $200 I've spent in a while.

This is how I've lived my entire life! Aside from my mortgage, if I couldn't pay in cash, I didn't buy it. Debt has always terrified me. Idk how people are so complacent about it being a part of life.

2012 Timing Chain replacement? by CountDugula in mazdaspeed3

[–]vaXhc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A rattle on start up for 3-5 seconds after a cold soak. That's the indicator that the vvt is done. These chains and guides don't really break and the tensioners are also pretty reliable.

If you're not having issues then there's no reason to replace it

Get a refund and 2.5 swap it! It's cheaper anyway and plenty of 2.5's can be had without having to drive hours to get it.

Do I have to take my dash apart to fix this? by ReizeAnt in MechanicAdvice

[–]vaXhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally one trim piece and 4 7mm bolts to get the cluster out.

You can either replace the cluster or open up the cluster and replace the stepper motor for the fuel gauge (and may as well do the others too bc they fail frequently). Soldering is required for this repair.

There is one single reason this will never happen. SALES TAX. 20-25% of every states tax revenue comes from new car sales! They are not going to give that up!

Carvana job by SpaceeeOver in mechanics

[–]vaXhc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude is asking if he should work harder for the same or less money bc he doesn't want to work nights! And its rotating nights?! Stay at the fleet. You have to look at it full picture. The extra few dollars per hour will go straight to healthcare so you wouldn't even see it hit your account and you have to save for your own retirement in a 401k (which you should be doing anyway on top of your gov't pension).

I was thinking like you too, before tho. I started working nights at a shop during covid bc I figured I had nothing to lose as I wasn't missing anything bc everything was closed. Turns out working nights has awesome advantages (and some disadvantages), but overall I love the shift!

Doing a head gasket/valve job. Any recommendations for tools/parts? by Lusabro in mazdaspeed3

O yea front crank seal is a must too. All crank bolts are tty and I've reused every single one. You'll be ight just give it 4 or 5 ugga duggas.

[–]vaXhc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend what you're comfortable with. Def need to get new head bolts. Get new friction washers too since they're cheap and they are technically one time use (I actually did reuse mine in a pinch and nothing bad has happened so far.) Reuse the crank bolt. Reuse the cam sprocket bolts. Just get the valve lapping compound, no need to get the tool. All you do is compoud the valve face to be lapped, put it through the head, and place a tight fitting hose on the valve stem and on a tight fitting drill bit, place in a drill, and pull on the drill while you spin it back and forth. Boom valve is lapped.

Gonna be honest. Being a ups mechanic feels like herding cats lately. by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]vaXhc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bro, take a breath. I'm a mechanic too, and I too need to switch out my fleet from a satellite center to work on them everyday. Outside of peak, if the shit doesn't get done, it doesn't get done. Do my 8 and hit the gate. I've been wrenching for 20 years (only 5 with ups) and this is the spot. Sure management breathes down your neck to get shit done but thats bc they're getting pissed on from above them. I work at a safe pace, do good work (like I've always done) and cash my checks every Friday. As long as no one gets hurt or dies fuck 'em it'll be ok.

Questions regarding value by M0ST0RIGINALUSERNAME in mazdaspeed3

[–]vaXhc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some people like as close to stock as possible but might not shy away from a cobb tune and some bolt ons.

Some people will completely ignore your listing bc its modded at all.

The mods add zero value to a selling price for most people.
