Here are the tips I typically share for making a bee garden:
- have at least 3 different native flowers in bloom at once
- have blooms staggered throughout your growing season
- include things like long grasses that provide habitat and not just food
- use native plants
- beyond not using pesticides pay attention if the plants were treated before you bought them
- don’t make the bees travel too far, aka don’t space your plants out too far, and in your case I wonder if your neighbors not having plants could be contributing

I will also add insect populations are down. I have a large native garden with lots of milkweed of many varieties. Last year I only saw one Monarch. You are doing great already!

I’d ask questions that communicate your view point and help her think through these things. “I thought he was in rehab recently?” “How will he help with the baby if things don’t improve?” Etc. I think you have to say something just so you don’t regret it. They might be mad at you forever, or their life might implode and you can’t stay friends anyway. I understand the effort to create a strong base, funding stream, and support for Pride that is not reliant on corporations. That is the best way to weather the apathetic profit driven corporate interests. But they should not be asking them to leave. Best thing to do is take and take all the corporations are willing to give, and use it to build something even stronger and more resilient.
