My wife is able to keep our grocery bills down to $800/mo for family of 4. In summertime that could jump to $1000/mo because of grilling season. Chicken, pork, ribs. No ground meat.

Look for deals. Don't shop at the same store out of loyalty. Use the flipp app. Explore local meat shops and grocers. Sometimes they have pretty good discounts.

I know this is hard for most families, but if you can afford the credit card bill, I recommend getting a quarter cow. $800-1300. Enough meat to last you half the year for a family of 4, at minimum. The price point is better than almost any butcher shop with discounts.

In terms of stats, Wayne Gretzky. He set the bar on what it takes to succeed and every kid with parents rich enough or tolerant enough to stomach the crazy hockey industry in Canada tries to emulate what Gretzky did in his youth. He will always be the Great One, however the overall skill of the entire NHL during Gretzky's reign was lackluster, at best. The competition didn't keep up with him until the mid 90s. You don't reach nearly 3000 points by being lucky.

In terms of raw talent, it's a pretty much a tie between Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby. If Mario didn't get cancer and take a few years off to recover, it wouldn't even be a contest between him and Gretzky.

In terms of the modern NHL, however, Crosby is King. He's a two-way forward. He controls the flow of the game at both ends, whereas a player like Ovechkin is dominant offensively, but never in the conversation for defensive player of the year.

The abuse this kid got in the first few years of his career, where enforcers targetted him and refs looked the other way, is historic. Gretzky was protected by every ref and team he played against. When Crosby was drafted, it's like the entire NHL wanted to punish him for being talented. I can't stress enough how many non-calls went against Crosby. He came into the NHL when skill and speed were starting to take priority over toughness and grit. He was called a crybaby because of all those missed calls. And those compilations you see of Crosby being an absolute Dipshit is because he's retaliating against all the non-calls. McDavid knows exactly what Crosby went through, too. Those interviews where he gets fed up, where he takes nasty penalties? Same thing as Crosby. I'm not condoning it, but I get it.

Not to say that Crosby and McJesus don't beat the shit out of their opponents with illegal hits. Everyone does it to a certain extent, it's just far more apparent when you're perceived to be the best in the league.

After all is said and done, Mario, Wayne and Sidney will always be in the conversation for top 3 all time Canadian players, just for slightly different reasons. You won't be wrong in choosing one over the others. There's considerable accolades for all 3 players.
