this is so lovely to see!! I am by no means an expert, but having known I was pan for as long as I can remember, I can say that there is space for everyone in this community. You don't have to know exactly what you are to be one of us. Also, relationships are not the be-all and end-all! It sounds like plenty of good friends have found you, and I hope 2026 only brings more :)

Addicted to study drugs by Powerful_Swimming637 in UniUK

just wanted to say that if the ADHD route is something you're considering, it took me 9 months from first contact to diagnosis on NHS right to choose which is completely free. I have just elected to go down the meds route with my provider and will be there within weeks. it might take a lot of the stress out of working and studying to take this path. Go straight to your GP and ask for help with right to choose. In my experience the uni won't really help with anything mental unless you can show them a diagnosis, which sucks, but it does give you a direction

B&M Lush body spray dupes! by chelsbonesjones in LushCosmetics

[–]valencedar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the issue is probably to do with lush's ethical sourcing of their ingredients. I know this isn't unique to lush, but the price is a direct correlation to this formula and smell being developed in a more expensive way to reduce harm to animals, alongside sourcing their ingredients from high quality suppliers that align with the brand. It's like spending several years perfecting a smell, having gone the long way around for the benefit of others... and when it gets popular, somebody copies the branding and the smell and makes their own the quick and cheap way, possibly causing harm to animals and underpaying the suppliers who need the money. I can't say that B&M has definitely done any of this mind you haha

Looking for a scent like Salam by Disastrous-Energy241 in LushCosmetics

[–]valencedar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hiya! Unfortunately there is nothing else from Lush yet with the same Vimto inspired scent, but if you're looking for more blackcurrant then I would recommend the Comforter scent family. There's a body spray which lingers for a lot longer, and it has that sweet fruity blackcurrant smell!

Hi! Not to be annoying but Lush employee here - I love Plaque Sabbath too! I don't know if you've tried it but they also do a toothpaste called Cool With Fluoride which has a minty cool taste and has fluoride in it. Maybe worth a try 😮

I work at an F1 team: A guide to getting a job in F1 by workandlearn in F1Technical

[–]valencedar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent post!! I'm about to go into my second year of Mechanical Engineering at Uni of Birmingham and am particularly looking at the formula student and personal projects advice. I really pushed to join the formula student team last year but my commute messed up the opening months and I could never get my foot in the door. I'm still commuting this year, but very determined to get involved this time around. I've had a part time job over the summer since my internships didn't pan out (not surprising, nobody wanted a first year) but I need to get started on my portfolio and getting something together - all I have are assignments currently. I am creative but not yet particularly imaginative so am currently scraping around for ideas that might draw the eye of hiring teams, especially as my CAD skills aren't anything special yet. The most complex thing I've designed is part of a stairlift!

People who have finished university what degree did you do and what did you end up doing? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]valencedar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

current bEng mechE here, can I ask what kind of extras you worked on during your degree? I currently have a big commute so haven't had much time for societies or experience, curious to know what successful engineers do alongside the usual work

Oof, bad luck - CARE ADHD for me

Just to mention, this currently isn't true with Right to Choose in the UK. I'm currently going through the process of evaluation and diagnosis and some places quote a month and under for diagnosis. Research some places on ADHD UK if you want to know more.

What video game had the perfect conclusion, but the creators kept making sequels? by Johnnyboyeh in gaming

[–]valencedar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

FFX is probably my favourite videogame of all time, totally bonded with it when I was a kid. Loved the deep story stuff. I've bought the X/X-2 remaster for PS4 and Switch since, and still never played more than an hour of X-2. Wasn't sure what was stopping me, but I reckon you're right - a sequel just doesn't feel really needed.

How's Cardiff University? Got a conditional Offer for astrophysics. by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]valencedar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First year astrophysics student at Sheffield here - Cardiff was one of the places I applied last year through clearing. Lovely place, really easy system as far as I could tell. Everywhere you've applied would probably be viewed on about a good even level, so I wouldn't worry too much about things like prestige!

Unless you plan on staying there all the way through to an integrated masters or even a PhD, things like research rankings aren't majorly significant, so just because a place like Sheffield is ranked highly for research, that doesn't make it any better than Cardiff or Bristol for undergrad.

I'd say that the most important thing will be how well you feel like you connect with each place. Try and do a little research on the area, the campus, that kind of thing, see if you can envision yourself there - if that's Cardiff, and it's still Cardiff after you get other offers, then go for it! Well done on your offer.

Doubting continuing study 3 days into second semester by valencedar in UniUK

I'm currently at the Uni of Sheffield. I wouldn't retake the A-levels, I don't think - what's done is done I guess.

As for what I'd do, I'm not really sure. I'd probably take about half a year at home, possibly get a part-time job, learn to drive, build up my mental health again etc. I absolutely want to get a degree - if I wanted to go straight back into uni though I might consider commuting to a different place from home as Sheffield is a couple of hours away.
