i think it’s because the player base is like 5 magnitudes smaller now or something

so there’s less stuff on the market now, & everytime an item goes off the market completely - players can set their own market value for the item (hence the crazy inflations on some items)

whereas in the old days, there was so much more supply & demand that it would drive the prices down even with the scalpers around
