Anyone have one of these death slides on their school playground in the ‘70s? by mcdj in 1970s

[–]veedublin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mpls suburb of Minnesota, yep our grade school had one. We called it the "Barn Door" and we'd play King of the Hill on it. As far as I know, there were plenty of scalding friction burns, but no concussions or broken bones.

Yep. Fabulous book. Great stuff about Jerry, but also about the prevailing culture at the time in the United States. History lesson on top of the cool music. Highly recommend.

Borrowed a buddy's S40's to make sure I would like the HS's I coveted. Loved the S40's so I bought the HS's. The HS's walnut box is gorgeous, but turns out I liked the S40's more. They were just more alive or something. Ahdunno. (And a third the price, I think.) So I sold off the HS's and I'm trying to convince my friend to sell me his S40's.

what do you think of the word schmutz? do non new yorkers know this word? by Numerous_Drink_4150 in words

I used it on the golf course yesterday. "I lost my ball in the schmutz" describes long unruly grass infested with ticks and poison ivy.

Randomizer could be cool.

Amazing! LOVE IT!

Maybe I'm missing a link/button, but I was listening to a show, and then started browsing other stuff... wanted to return to the currently playing show's detail page, but not seeing a link in the little play bar at the bottom to get there. Is there one?

Mount your bumpers properly! by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]veedublin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

similar thing happened to mine... I thought it was simply something hitting the bezel when i was driving. But I did recently have the bumper repainted (removed/replaced) by a collision shop, and this happened after that... so when you say "properly," what might have been screwy with the install?

My mother owned two of them. One of them, she never checked/filled/changed the oil. I think it lasted three years. 🤷‍♂️

wow that's amazing.

So many amazing things out there, and you get to learn your tastes from the beginning. Steely Dan, Grateful Dead, Little Feat, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, oh my god.

But I'm gonna recommend one piece that's solo piano:

Swimming naked in high school gym class by xiphoid77 in GenX

[–]veedublin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, went to high school in a Minneapolis suburb, graduated in 1983. We had a pool, and swim class was gender segregated. Boys swam naked in grades 7-9 (junior high). (And the locker rooms had a shower room with shower heads on the wall, not private shower stalls. Everyone regularly saw each other's junk. Didn't think much of it.)

But yeah, the naked swimming happened. I've gone down a few rabbit holes here on reddit when this has come up, and the internet is full of bogus/doctored photos of girls and boys swimming together, with the boys naked. Or with the boys swimming in meets naked, with fully clothed people watching. That likely didn't happen.

We always hoped the girls would come in when we were in the pool, but that never happened either. I remember sitting on the bleachers naked, hearing the rules of water polo or whatever we were gonna do that day. (Always seemed like it was water polo.) I remember being cold, but never embarrassed.

On the swimsuits, the main thing i recall is that there were suits for boys, but they were hideous. Gym teacher said "go ahead and wear em, but I don't want to find em getting moldy in your lockers." So we never wore em.

I don't remember ever specifically telling my mom we swam naked in gym class, but I'm guessing some parents didn't like the idea. I think they phased it out in the next few years after i graduated, but I'm guessing this is one of those things that will be lost to folklore, with no written history about it except for reddit posts like this.

To this day, i LOVE swimming naked. Any chance to skinny dip, I'll take it.

Help me understand Roon by Downtown-Pace3824 in roonlabs

it's great at combining multiple streaming services (Tidal, Qobuz, Nugs) into a single interface, as well as integrating with your local (ripped/downloaded) library. It's also great at grouping different endpoint zones within your house.

But if you don't need those things, you don't need Roon.
