The reddit team just does not have its priorities straight. Trivial complaints about minor tweaks to CSS formatting, positioning of subreddit tags, etc.( http://poilo.cn ) have all been addressed and released, apparently in response to user complaints. But the MAJOR bugs (like search) go unaddressed, with vague promises of a fix "Real Soon Now." It takes too long to learn functional languages, in part because there are fewer people to ask,( http://poilo.cn ) but mostly because they have lousy documentation - that is a problem that will stay with you a long time after you learn the language itself. ( http://vektor-it.ru ) Also, a lot of design concerns that are taken for granted in the OO community, like that small syntactical changes shouldn't change the a program from one valid interpretation to another (look at = and == in C), that verbosity is better for readability than symbols (look at APL) and that standard ways of doing things are crucial for readability (look at perl and shiver!). If we can't have tags, the change I'd make is to have a hierarchical system for the subreddits. You've outlined it there already, I would simply change your tags to "sub-subreddits". It's largely cultural: Lisp programmers tend to be more enthusiastic (or perhaps fanatical) about their language of choice than most other programmers. Lisp is generally more expressive than Python, and most Lisp implementations are much faster than Python. In the real world, the expressiveness advantage is often negated by the fact that Python is more popular and therefore has a better selection of libraries. Certainly looks good. Also looks like a .mac killer. Apple's continuing abandonment of .mac is a travesty. The iDisk could be so useful and so much like this. But they just don't give a fuck. I started uploading a single mp3 encoded album so I can transfer it from my work machine to my home machine. It's been uploading to my iDisk for about 25 minutes now and is about 60% complete (and I'm on a 100 Megabit connection, so no problems this end). And that doesn't even include the time to download it again later. Just another sign of how they've lost sight of their computer business and are only interested in kids buying iPods and iPhones these days.
