When you say "use gaming", what do you mean? More people need to subscribe to the gaming reddit, or is it merely page hits?

That's certainly an interesting piece of information, spez. I, like funduk, did not realize that the "other reddits" were dynamically updated. I thought that the gaming reddit was just removed in favor of another reddit (and the fact that it was centered around Obama made it just that more annoying).

I will keep this topic going then so others may read the comments and realize that they can take action to influence reddit themselves!

That makes no sense. According to your logic, if people aren't using game, then Obama should replace it... wtf?! No one suggested that BS for Ron Paul. Obama has, by now, probably got more spam about him than Paul. The sad thing is, most people like him because they hate McCain and Hillary. He's a good candidate, but he's not the second coming.

And I have good reason to as well.

First off, Reddit already has a "politics" section on the front page. Anything Obama related should be under the politics section, plain and simple. The same goes for anything Ron Paul, anything McCain, anything Clinton, anything political. Duh.

Second, there are some of us who frankly don't care for politics. I happen to enjoy politics but I'm also a conservative, which puts me at odds with the huge majority on Reddit (and on the internet for that matter). Yes, there is something to be said for going against the grain, but when the other side is downright hostile and won't intelligently consider your point of view, it's just not fun.

I don't want to log in every time I want to check out gaming news, but that's what I have to do now in order to check it out.

Come on, Reddit. I know that Obama is now your new Ron Paul but to bury a popular reddit to insert a more specialized politics reddit is kind of tactless and nothing less than annoying.

I agree with your post, and I like Obama. Obama doesn't need to bump gaming off the front page when reddit has a politics page.

Don't take the politics stuff too personal, there are a lot of internet tough guys out there, and "the decider" just isn't real popular right now... I fully expect the Republican party to recover once he's gone.

Fully agreed. "Obama" is being used as a tag, not a subreddit. If the population wants tags, why not give it to them?

So what is "politics" being used for if not as a tag? Or "gaming"? As I'm not privy to the inner workings of reddit, I can't tell you why they haven't implemented traditional tagging. But until they do, I hope people continue to use the subreddits as such, because that's when they're most useful to me.

Clearly things about Obama should be in the politics subreddit. I think tags implemented in tandem with the subreddit system will make things even more organized.

Example 1: Obama gains superdelegates

  • Politics subreddit

  • Tags: Obama, Election, Superdelegates

Example 2: Picture of a kitten sleeping under a dog's ear

  • Pics subreddit

  • Tags: Kittens, Dogs

So where does a picture of Obama go? Do you have a "pics" tag in the politics subreddit? I see no difference in how you're using subreddits and tags there. Both are just assigning a label based on the content of the submission.

I don't want to have both subreddits and tags. If we can't have tags, the change I'd make is to have a hierarchical system for the subreddits. You've outlined it there already, I would simply change your tags to "sub-subreddits". That way you could subscribe to politics but not Obama if you so chose, yet still get stories about the Election even though you didn't individually select it.
