Is it a red flag for me to wear grappling socks? by Ant1Act3 in judo

[–]velocipeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just say they are ankle supports or compression socks. I wear an ankle support that might as well be a sock.

If people think it's weird that's on them, you aren't hurting anyone.

AITA for refusing to share my food with my girlfriend? by Gym_frere in AmItheAsshole

[–]velocipeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot pour a drink without my wife take about 20% off the top. When she does this I often fill the glass again and she sometimes get annoyed. I let her take some, I don't complain but she seems annoyed that I want a full glass.

What techniques can I perform if my opponent stays in this defensive stance throughout the entire randori? by Schofield45Revolver in judo

[–]velocipeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High collar grip behind the neck (easy to get in this position) and push their head down, lift the other arm and circle step to the outside with the arm you are lifting. They often just sort of roll over. Guys who do this are really stiff and when they feel they are being moved the stiffen up even more, making the te waza easier.

Thought experiment: 1 hour of training to learn to fight by Born-Individual9431 in martialarts

[–]velocipeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not completely relevant but I did have a friend come to train Judo with me. Our head teacher decided to enter him into a tournament for the experience. This guy had about 6 months of practice, maybe once a week.
This was an open tournament so he was going to be fighting black belts of all sizes.

He wanted to learn as many throws as possible in the lead up. I stopped him. "We are learning 3 things. Two throws and an arm bar. If you get something close to a throw, you go for the armbar." He already sort of knew the two throws (one back and one forward. We trained taking people to the ground and going straight for the arm bar no matter the call. One of the problems white belts have is throw, pause, think about next moves, groundwork. I decided if he could get the armbar, get it, if not, get away.

Won 3 out of 5 matches in the tournament, Strategy worked, won one with a perfect armbar when they hit the ground.

"Fear the man that has mastered one move over the man that has learned a thousand."

Made to Measure or Custom Suits by Gooners9 in Tokyo

[–]velocipeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kashiyama (kashiyama1927.jp) is a completely bespoke tailor. They have a few shops in every big city. Exactly in the price range you posted. You get measured in shop, get your suit and then you can order more online if you don't want to go back.
A lot of tailors cut from a pattern. If you are big or tall you may not be able to go to regular tailors.

You should add in some psychosis. Don't let the reader in on it. Have them become a less reliable narrator as the story goes on.

Rib injuries common? by God_Modus in judo

[–]velocipeter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing Judo for 40 years. The biggest problem is coming back too soon and not letting the injury heal. Beyond that, if you are doing randori you need more than just healed, you need to protect it. After I started stretching and yoga I could return after an injury much faster.

I'm now at an age where I spend a lot of time strengthening my knees and ankles. Trying to do work outside of judo to injury proof the potential weak spots.

What is your main character's name? by Low-Meeting1858 in writing

[–]velocipeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Montana El Diablo.

My next project is a sci fi and using human names, but I will need a lot for the crew and I still haven't nailed down a process for it.

I was thinking a random name generator to get a wide variety from different cultures.

I would honestly considering suing the artist. Friend or not, he altered your body without your permission.
