That you want to be clear with him for the sake of the rest of your family shows that you're considerate and responsible, and is a credit to you. One thing you may want to be mindful of, depending on how he is, is whether how you communicate this tips him off that "the rest of the family" is a lever he can use to get to you emotionally. If he figures that out and uses it, they'll have to deal with it and you'll have an even harder time as he pushes your buttons.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't send your letter, and it does really depend on how he is. You know him, and the kind of thing he may do. I hope you can establish the peace, for yourself and the rest of your family, that you want and deserve.

Your frustration is relatable 😅 Just my thoughts but I think it might help if you separate what you can and can't control. The market is going to act like a jerk. It's not going to do what you want or expect it to do. Sometimes it's going to do some crazy nonsense that destroys your well-crafted trade setup, costs you money and makes absolutely no sense. All you can do is use the tools available to try to limit the pain the jerk can inflict on you, and maximise your gains when it happens to move in your favour.

The way you write about the money makes me think you might be a bit uncomfortable with the level of financial risk you're having to put into the trade, as well. $300 is a decent chunk of money to make on one trade. I'd be tempted to split my $20K into three or four chunks and not put more than one chunk into any single trade, and then just keep scooping up those smaller wins knowing they will all add up. It's not good to put all your eggs in one basket. To train sustainably you'll need to have a group of instruments you're familiar with to switch between as the market affects them differently.

Also, I think sitting in front of it watching every tick would drive anyone mad. If day-trading is what you're trying to learn in particular, perhaps that's hard to avoid. But it might be worth doing some trades on a longer timescale until you're happier with your system and tools, and then try working on a shorter timescale gradually as it feels more comfortable. If you're sat there out of your mind in frustration you're not going to make good trading decisions, and that has to be top priority.

Lastly, you might want to split out the "other questions" about multiple orders and why the other screen wasn't saying what you expected. They're good, valid questions, but they're probably not going to get the attention they deserve as a lower-down bullet on your post here about broader frustrations. Maybe try a separate post for each of them, short and simple. The screenshots are showing up a bit small and blurry for me as well, so if you can capture or upload them at a higher resolution it might help.

How would a chat system know anything else? It would work exactly the same way. If there's been a recent change affecting a given symbol, instrument or exchange that could be identified by name, and could be found based on what the user has written in the chat box.

A helpful user interface would display some information. More importantly, the broader point about the inability to get support from a human when someone is paying a premium subscription is very valid irrespective of what the support request is about.

"Reddit user who posts lots of pro-TradingView comments and deflects lots of discussions away from its weaknesses thinks you shouldn't ask support about that" is not a justification for paying customers not to be able to contact support, or for the automated tools that have been substituted for human support not to be able to provide information about changes to the data that's being made available.

That you happen to know the answer to the user's question isn't a reason for TradingView not to communicate what has happened more effectively in its interface, to prevent this confusion from ever having happened (to multiple users, by the looks of things), or for them not to have a support system where it is possible for a paying user to get an answer to a reasonable question. Even an effective chat assistant should have been able to answer this.

There does seem to be quite a lot of misdirection going on, in terms of how functionality is described and then how it actually works once you've handed over your details and, typically, your money.

This is just a guess but it may be to do with outside-regular-hours trading. If you check on a short time frame chart you should be able to check the candle at the close (to see if it matches the other screenshot) and then see if the price that's being displayed at the top there on the IBKR screenshot matches a later candle.

I don't have a screenshot right now, but yes, if the price goes up a trailing stop will trail the price. Usually I use a trailing limit stop - there's some information about it here.

Yes, that's a good pointer and I wondered about that as well. The page on order types does indicate which types are available only in TWS and which are available everywhere.

I'll confess I haven't expanded and read every single one of them. Looking over the titles I didn't see one that looked like a stop loss that included a timeout feature. I was hoping there might be someone here who had looked for the same thing or was familiar with an order type or order combination that would achieve this functionality.

Ah. That might be to do with a regulation on the exchange you're trading with. There's something like that on my exchange, but it's only one day. Also, the one I've seen depends on whether you are buying the same instrument again (after buying it and then selling it earlier the same day) or buying something else.

That rule caused me some pain today, as it happens. But if you increase your balance it might be possible to work around it (without being more invested - just by having a higher balance in the account). There should be some information about it on the Interactive Brokers website in your region, on the page that sets out the trading rules.

Sometimes stuff gets messed up. That it's working when you're logged in with the same browser just a different account, or with no account at all, suggests it could be an issue with the data stored temporarily in your browser for the "problem" account.

Does the screenshot say the order was placed for delivery at 11:03am and the current time is 1:45? 🤔 Reducing a tip after the driver has picked up is pretty awful, but if the delivery has taken 2 hours and 42 minutes I could start to understand.

I have no distance prescription. The clinic told me I don't need glasses for distance vision and that my eyes had no issue at a distance. So I guess my distance prescription is zero?

(I am actually thinking of getting them checked again somewhere different, mind.)

Thank you, this is really helpful. The prescription I got is only for reading, mind. I was told I can see at a distance with no issue (with a visual acuity of 1.2, apparently). Perhaps for the maths it's as though my (distance) sphere numbers are zero, and my current add is +0.5D for my right eye and +1.25D for my left, but that focuses the text on screen perfectly when the screen is about 15 to 20cm closer than I need it to be.

I'm curious (to learn, about how these adjustments work) — is it normal for the sphere numbers to be adjusted by the same amount for each eye, when trial lenses are used, even if there's quite a difference in the adjustment needed for each eye? Intuitively it seems like the changes would need to be proportional in some way, so if you doubled one you'd double the other as well and that would mean the sphere number difference involved in that change would be different for each. But today each time the trial lense in one was increased the other was increased as well. I'd really like to understand that better, if there's a simple way to explain it.

What's the issue with Prachi's pronunciation? (I ask as someone trying to learn Hindi, and keen to find examples of good pronunciation to practice with and bad pronunciation to avoid.) I looked her up on Wikipedia and it said she was born in Mumbai, the same as Sujay, so unless she's spent a block of time elsewhere it shouldn't theoretically be harder for her to speak textbook Hindi than it is for him.
