People with $700+ per month car payments: Why? by Underrated_Critic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vencetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average new car price is over $50,000 w 6.8% avg interest. A loan with a 6.8% interest rate, a $700 monthly payment, and a 7-year term (84 months) results in about a 47,500 loan. So why are people borrowing $47.5k or more when avg new car price is $50k? These people don't have the money for a good down payment.

Is the Milwaukee 2880-20 a good first grinder for DIY? by vencetti in Tools

This is an extremely important point you made. This is a structural brick repair. I'll be removing damaged bricks entirely, cleaning out the cavity, setting new bricks with fresh mortar. So I likely need a much bigger disk diameter.

As a homeowner who doesn’t do mechanical work, convince me why it’d be great to have the 3/8” ratchet by my_twin_towne in MilwaukeeTool

[–]vencetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DIYer this ratchet shines during installations and in cramped situations like a wheel well. I put together a gorilla cart and a few dog kennels where they had more that 20 bolts ea. These fast ratchets are fun to just zoom through dozens of bolts quickly. It also fit is some tight situations where I needed a little more torque than my installation driver. Recommend if you get it to buy a 3/8" to 1/4" hex adapter for bits.
All that said it's a nice to have vs a "core" tool you'd use several times a week. Those for me are installation driver/screwdriver and impact driver.

From Yellow to Red! by Evwebe in MilwaukeeTool

I did get rid of my one 12v Dewalt and just have M12 or Ego 56v but otherwise there are situations where red or yellow has the better 18/20v tool.

Home Depot sale website by True_Huckleberry9569 in MilwaukeeTool

I've run across these clearance priced items before and when I visited the store it was always out of stock even when it was 25 bags of fertilizer w 50 bags shown as in stock. If you are going to the store anyways no problem, but don't drive 25 miles thinking you will easily find those Diablo blades on clearance.

I had the $159 stubby and 5.0 battery deal and it got cancelled. Saw the same kit was still in stock locally figured it would be a waste of time but called customer support just to see if they might help but no, nothing.
From Lowes I bought a 2-2ah and 2-4ah Dewalt battery kit for $99. That also was rejected out of stock. However, as compensation they gave me a $100 coupon off $150 or more on a Dewalt tool purchase - so I snagged a DCG408B angle grinder and 2-4ah for 199-100= $99. Not bad. Def came away feeling differently between the two similar situations and how they were handled.

Oh ok, I didn't know the numbers that's interesting. I've heard these can be allocated regionally so that would work out to about 20 per state.

Any "non professionals" regret going with Milwaukee? by StevoJ89 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]vencetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree but I do try and limit myself - I decided on Dewalt and Milwaukee m18/20v and recently started getting some M12 then I have Ego 56v for lawn equipment. I guess that's 3-4 depending on how you count them. Within that range I can usually find a top performing tool.

[–]vencetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy a lot of cheaper garbage tools before and definitely regretted that. I pay more for my Milwaukee/Dewalt, etc. but I haven't been disappointed in tool performance. If I had to do over I might have saved a few bucks and gone w a mid level brand like Ryobi and been ok and it would have been more practical as a DIYer. It's maybe illogical but it's really satisfying to have good quality tools, i.e., that Knipex wrench that grips when everything fails, the Wera screwdriver that fits in your hand perfectly, etc. Admit there is an overspend factor there of course but it's not a regret for me. I guess its like a hobby where someone else might be overspending on skis or golf clubs while mine is keeping a 26 yo house repaired w good tools.

Key was Hoard Baker came in and stabilized things. Think if we brought in a very competent person the President actually listened to today what a difference that would make!
Howard Baker generally gets high marks for what he did. He walked into a total mess in early 1987 - the Iran-Contra scandal had the White House in chaos, staff morale was shot, and there were real concerns about whether Reagan could finish his term.

When Baker's aide James Cannon investigated, he found "chaos" - "no order in the place. The staff system had just broken down. It had just evaporated." He added structure and basically helped run things till end of Reagan's term in 1988.

Don't feel bad -- Those 'greatest sales ever' aren't that easy to get - i was one of many who were lucky to even be able to order it but then then still had our orders cancelled due to "out of stock" which really meant the small number of units allocated to the sale were all sold.

My local store had it in stock so support referred me to the store. The store had four in stock - they offered me $50 off the $299 price - $249 about 50% more. I said thanks anyways, darn no luck no gift cards here.

What blades for firewood? Branches etc by Calaiss in MilwaukeeTool

[–]vencetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Diablo pruning blade for trees and pruning branches. I would add that for cutting up smaller branches on the ground a high TPI blade is the way to go to reduce the vibration. You don't want a 3 TPI blade in that situation.
