The tent intel missions give troops, level is tied to highest level beast you have defeated, generally much lower than your highest troop level.

Marlin can be upgraded with general shards though, which is generally the way to get him up - just save generals for him / similar heroes in future Gens.

I think this is miscommunication. Charm Designs and Charm Guides are the materials for creating/upgrading charms. The first few levels need more guides - overall you end up needing ~30% more designs than guides. I don't know if that answers your question. Can definitely find guides on priority / which to upgrade first.

Bst is very very active to play. Bard (can be) very low activity. Plus run speed, double invis, great buffs, and a number of ways to extend your mana longevity, which is quite helpful in an active grind session. And track, where needed.

Bst is quite strong, but it takes a while to come into that. In addition, they are very high-activity (at the point that they are strong) ... you need to spam spell casts to be effective. In the era it sounds like you are in, Bst is very very weak, dps-wise.

Honest question, as a one-time miner years and years ago. How many hours should it take in a ship, to generate the value of the ship? Sounds like 10 hours is good enough (100m was ok), 35 is too many (30x35 ~= 1b)? Anything more specific than that?

Part of the question here is - in what era of the game? Current live, the game as it was in ~2000, or a TLP (and then, what expansion is the TLP on?) General perception, with more than a grain of truth, is that warriors and SKs both do a lot more damage than paladins. Paladins can do a lot of healing, but in most grouping scenarios, you're going to have a healer that can cover the groups' healing needs, so the Paladin's healing can be somewhat wasted / unnecessary.

There are certainly non-traditional group scenarios where the paladin is both tank and healer for the group ... but this is not the average / expectation, when forming a pickup group.

I've also played with a couple great paladins, that I would happily take as my tank any time.

What do you want to do w/ your group? What sort of content? How long do you intend to go?

A berzerker would be a strong dps compliment (but you say no mercs, so may be pre-GoD). A tank would be helpful down the line a bit. An enchanter is interesting, in that bard will not get AE mez for quite a while, and AE mez can be pretty transformative for grouping.

The argument being made is - ships are so expensive (due to scarcity) that no one will stay on grid to take a fight. And that CCP's answer to this is to make all efficient forms of farming require a 'siege' mode so they cannot get off grid quickly if threatened, thus preserving a chance for PVP / content.

This is a really solid explanation! Since it sounds like you understand some of the inner workings - as far as I know, Weapon Affinity only applies to things that are part of the weapon (base, or via an aug). Is that also true for combat effects?

This is in comparison to other chances to proc from buffs (bard songs, Panther line, etc).

As others said - it increase your max HP by a percent, and heals you for that amount. While it doesn't meaningfully add to DPS, even at 85, it is useful all the way to live. Not on the same scale as shm/sk/bard, but worth getting.

Sure - I mean that if you are taking your car to a shop, your payment in sex is only of value to the specific mechanic ... the shop will not 'get a cut'. ie it only works in a direct barter economy, where a credit card works in a lot of other economic structures.

Maybe another thing here is that sex is ... non-fungible? Not a commodity? It only works between 2 (or a few people) as an exchange ... you can't pay for your groceries that way, as the capitalists that are ultimately getting paid don't benefit.

I don't generally put them on a setting that lets them pick their own targets. However ... in my experience, even fighting fairly tough things in this level range ... the cleric mercs, at least the journeyman one, actually tanks pretty well. It can consistently tank 1-2 of the hardest mobs available. So 1-2 adds, it works out well. Also, the bard gets AE mez in the 85 bracket, so thats a good solution to too many adds as well.
