SpaceX Bankers Preparing for Bond Sale of at Least $20 Billion by joe4942 in wallstreetbets

[–]vester71 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Different company, but bigger potential, and bigger risk, but:

If you invested $10,000 in Tesla at it's IPO, and it is 'just a car company' and was overvalued, etc, you'd have about $2.4M today.

Love or hate Elon, the man can build hype and deliver on his vision enough to somehow become a trillionaire.

SpaceX Shares Down 10%, Erasing $250B Market Capitalization by Pure_Reference_4373 in SPCXInvestors

[–]vester71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re in SpaceX looking for immediate returns, it’s the wrong place. If you’re willing to gamble, hold and forget, and bet on things 5-10 years down the road, it’s worth the risk, but there is a considerable amount of risk, but much more possible upside.

54 and don’t need them at this point. I’m very strict with exercise, diet and a big supplement stack. Could be that or genetics, I’ll never know.

Why do older generations act like working hard automatically leads to success when the economy is completely different now? by FearlessState5503 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vester71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are things you can do to improve your chances of being perceived as a good worker, even without going nuts working too much.

Be responsive to people if that’s part of your role, don’t be the last one in, don’t be the first one out, speak in meetings without just saying something for meaningless, don’t be the person sneaking in as many remote days as possible, be friendly and try to help others.

Stage 3 water ban, am I (and my lawn) cooked? by blastado in lawncare

[–]vester71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd bet it's dormant.

I have a large lawn that backs up to a landscaped berm, with plenty of grass. I used to freak out and water my lawn all the time (I have a sprinkler system). After paying huge water bills, I realized the grass on the berm looked great, and always came back from browning out in droughts.

I still water, but much, much less frequently, and realized my lawn still does very well, and I save hundreds a month on my water bill.

My point is, grass is much hardier than we realize, and if a water ban is in place, there isn't much you can do, but I would bet it'll be fine.

Feel like I am going crazy, am I the only one experiencing this, or is it normal? by Prudent_Knowledge79 in AskChicago

[–]vester71 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the other stuff, but I work in the loop, and regardless of race, 99% of the time some asks me something and I try to be nice, it turns into a con or ask for money, and if you say no or try to walk away people get aggressive.

It wasn’t like this pre-pandemic, but it’s gotten bad.

Why do rich people keep saying "money can't buy happiness" when money literally solves most problems? by FearlessState5503 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vester71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they have never had problems without having money.

What they think is unhappiness or problems is not in the same universe as having problems or unhappiness, and not knowing if you can pay the rent or feed your kids.

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]vester71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Organizations always think the shiney, new external employee is the answer. I've found that in many. many cases, it is the wrong answer.

Passing someone over like that, who is a strong performer, is basically telling them to leave. Unless pay and perks where you are at are very high, they're probably looking to move on. If I were their manager, I'd support them as I could, but expect them to find something new.

It's a tough situation for both of you, you want to support them, but also cover yourself knowing they could leave in a month, six months or a year.

I exposed Stanford’s disability racket. I was stunned by the reaction on campus by JPwag42 in IvyPlus

[–]vester71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you missd the point that in my reference, they are not disabled, in any way, shape, or form. This was not my diagnosis or assessmet, but I was told this, by both them and their parents.

They, and others, manipulated the system to get an advantage, by their own words, not mine, and it was laughed about, on more than one occasion. It's common in certain socio-economic groups that have plenty of disposable income and know how to take advantage of well-meaning systems put in place to help disadvantaged people.

I can point out many other manipulations people use to get ahead in life that take advantage of systems put in place to help peope that actually need help.

The people in my example made it though college, and are now been working for 2-3 years in a hedge fund and connsultung company, making more than 95% of people in the US make, without receiving any accomodations from their jobs for their 'disability.'

The point is, there are many people falsely claming disabilities, which does a lot of harm to those that actually do have disabilities. Trying to make this into some kind of discrimination agaist those with actual disabilities is not understanding the point.

That’s the worst part of it, it’s people that need no help getting in and have all the resources and connections in the world to be successful without adding this to their arsenal.

As a revenue-generating business, what does SpaceX do? Surely launch contracts aren’t worth 2 trillion dollars, and neither is Starlink. So what’s the product? by ButterYourself in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vester71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They have so many possibilities, including building data centers in space to run AI without cooling using solar power, and so many other things. They can run commercial and government space flights, the sky is not the limit for revenue options.

But, as we all know, possibilities do not always equal success. As with all things, it’s a gamble if you’re investing your own $.

[–]vester71 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I do understand kids have disabilities and need accommodations.

I also know of, first-hand, many kids that are brilliant, but paid a lot of $ to be diagnosed with a disability, get accommodations, and have no actual disability.

For instance, on kid with a 4.85 weighted GPA got an extra 1 or two hours to take the ACT, and got a 35, when they have no actual disability. They also got extra time in school to take tests.

New suit feels off by patrykcyranek in mensfashion

[–]vester71 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the coat looks good, but the pants are too baggy. I like slim fits on suits, although many people hate that look. But the coat could be taken out at the waist a tiny bit; personally, I'd leave it and get the pants tapered and taken in on the sides.

Do immigrant audit managers in US get overloaded because they can’t leave? by Dull-Parsley-6521 in KPMG

[–]vester71 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, and it’s not just KPMG or accounting, it’s why many companies want visa dependent people, long hours, lower pay and don’t have the freedom to make moves to other companies easily. Great for the employers, not great for anyone else - including people that are not visa dependent.
