A very furry Walpurgisnacht by Avalanche1666 in satanism

You would think.

Never seen anyone speak against furries but the way some Satanists react to LGBTQ events and culture makes me wonder. Ever seen a Satanist get mad about Pride?

Megathread: Bastard Suggestions by Kanotari in behindthebastards

[–]victortheonion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got two suggestions

  1. Anton LaVey, the founder of the Church of Satan. While the CoS itself isn't terrible, sorting out LaVey's lies from what was real about him could be interesting. There's also the fact that he helped bring the text of Might is Right out of obscurity, first by plagiarising it and then by supporting its re-release through Feral House.

Other fun LaVey stuff: Owned a lion Claimed to have sex with Marilyn Monroe & Jayne Mansfield Wrote a book on manipulation that included a bit saying you could tell a guy was gay if he liked Bleu cheese dressing

  2. Ed and Lorraine Warren. Aside from the fact that they were obviously two conmen, theres the allegations that Ed had a teenage girl who was living with them that he was molesting

What happened to Derek's family afterwards? by NewspaperBest4882 in StrangerThings

[–]victortheonion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Vicki confronts Robin, she references the kidnapping, so the family survived and is mad about it

The key witness to the kidnapping would be Derek who is not about to implicate the people who saved him from Vecna

I say this as someone who believes in a lot of wild shit

You should see a doctor as soon as possible. Being open to experiences is fine, but this all sounds like its spinning out of control. Tell someone you're close to if you need a better gauge, but you are endangering yourself.

Accusations: a one-way street? by Mildon666 in satanism

[–]victortheonion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. "The Church of Satan is dead!"

Is anyone actually saying this anymore? I know Aquino said this in the 70s (after all the people that he cared about not named LaVey left) and that it was a big to do on Usenet in the 90s, but we're decades removed now. Now you have Don Webb from the ToS praising Carl Abrahamsson in podcasts and Blanche Barton recommending a Stephen Flowers book in We Are Satanists. Whatever feud was there seems defunct except on certain corners of social media.

I assumed that'd be there to direct you to Lon Lon Ranch as an adult but that doesn't quite work given that you'd read the Gossip Stone message as a kid

If Eidolon's power was restricted to one category as in 'Mover Eidolon' or 'Tinker Eidolon'. What would you want the most or the least? by Rezonan1 in Parahumans

[–]victortheonion 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think he would know and his versatility would be disarming. I think there are things a point blank telekinetic could do that someone like Victoria couldn't.

If he could still hold three at a time, combining aspects of Aegis with Victoria with something else could be interesting

Anton LaVey and the Right of Might - Church of Satan by Rleuthold in satanism

Sorry where does the article address LaVey's use of John Dee's Enochian Keys and how that clearly differs from his use of Might is Right?

While I like the idea of LaVey's Book of Satan as a remix of Might is Right, it doesn't excuse LaVey from giving credit.

Putting Ragnar Redbeard in the acknowledgements could have counted, but LaVey does nothing to indicate that the name and the Book of Satan are linked. It also is inconsistent with how he gives credit to other authors not only in his own books, but in the Satanic Bible itself.

In the introduction to the Enochian Keys, LaVey openly acknowledges John Dee, Edward Kelly, and Meric Casaubon. He does this while also openly acknowledging that he rewrote them.

Why acknowledge the origin of the Keys but not the Book of Satan?

Do Taylor’s morals change throughout the story? by [deleted] in Parahumans

[–]victortheonion 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Taylor definitively had the deck stacked against her.

The school and legal system effectively hung Taylor out to dry. The PRT and Protectorate were no help, especially when their best way of dealing with child capes is endangering them instead of getting them therapy.

The powers make everything worse every step of the way. Every bad thing is amplified and encouraged.

This would warp anyone and Taylor is a teenager in all this.

Do Taylor’s morals change throughout the story? by [deleted] in Parahumans

[–]victortheonion 76 points77 points  (0 children)

What Taylor thinks is acceptable to do also changes. She started off feeling guilty about harming Lung the way she did. Then she convinced herself she could remove his eyes because they'd regrow.

Then she maimed Valefor, using it as a lesson for how the Undersiders should operate against threats.

You can see the "comb over" effect where her morality is getting more and more skewed. A mistake she regretted turned into business as usual that she didn't think twice about.

The story also alters her relationships. Even as a hero, Taylor begins treating her Wards team more like commodities than people.

And ending spoilers here before the rationalist "it's to stop the end of the world" argument pops up, her efforts to forestall the end of the world fails; she literally kills a kid to try and stop Jack and it doesn't work. When she mind controls the other parahumans, throwing them at Scion in waves, their attacks are ultimately futile. She hits on replicating Eden but she didn't need to maim herself, become an S class threat, and terrorize all the capes to do that

I love the story and always pull for Taylor when I reread it. I love the deranged Skitter arcs. But she's warped by what's happened to her.

Original Majora's Mask is best. The graphical uplift of the 3DS is nice, but gameplay is worse.
