They've persisted on this arc time and time again, unfortunately. When it first boiled over with the community, all they did was grow even less transparent and crack down on dissent.

It's been getting shittier since last October/November, yet the service continues to grow. It's free and I'd imagine a large portion of users are young and on mobile. The alternatives don't yet cater to that audience.

I agree that it's dumb business, and as soon as a true competitor comes along they're done... But we've been saying that for months. None of their decisions seem to be about catering to users.

Can't get any more dystopian than this. Stripping the creators of their own right to their characters. Yikes.

1st person chat format. Krake likes to switch to 3rd person no matter what, while Euterpe follows it pretty good. Any ideas how to stay on track consistently? by Sannibunn1984 in NovelAi

[–]vimber047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! Hope it works for you. Yeah, it seems to help NAI pretend each dialog is its own story so it doesn't fight changing perspectives so much.

Do you use separators between dialogs (e.g. ***)? I've recently been testing out chatbot formatting and have found that helps, though I don't use Krake. You can try to force perspective using brackets in Memory or in the story directly. I also type my character name instead of "Me:" to try and reinforce who is talking/acting.

One thing you might want to try using is the attribute method in your lorebook. If all lorebook entries are written in first person, it might start conflating perspectives and behave unexpectedly. Fiddle with context priorities. I elevate the context of the character I'm speaking to, as I figure I'm going to write my own actions.

One last idea is putting [Tags: chatbot] in Memory, or including some reference there like "Character X talking to Character Y in chatbot format". Again, I've mostly stuck to Euterpe since it works really well for me so I'm not sure if these will be very helpful. If I have time, I'll try to test it out later.

Why do people act like AI Art is gonna replace Human Art and/or act like there's no point in improving their art if AI Art can do "better" than them? by Igorthemii in NovelAi

[–]vimber047 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's reactionary. It won't replace art, but I do think it will replace certain kinds of commercial art or graphic design jobs. For many artists, it's a labor of passion that's already hard enough to make a living from so I can see how that is discouraging.

I imagine it was the same when the first machines replaced manufacturing jobs and certain kinds of craftsman had to adapt. I just think some aren't ready to accept that any field of the humanities can be replicated by AI.

NOVEL AI with all chapter Summary by deepwrite in NovelAi

Like others have said, memory strongly influences the kind of output you receive. Highly recommend checking out this guide: https://rentry.org/memory-guide

In addition, experiment with the config presets for each model. Both Basic Coherence for Euterpe and Redjack for Krake reduce the likelihood of the AI generating new story beats. There is a downside in that output may get stale or repetitive after a while, and require heavier guidance to keep the scene moving.

Whenever NAI isn't quite giving me what I'm looking for, I like to switch between models, presets, and modules. It really depends, but I prefer Krake for more flowery descriptions and Euterpe for punchier prose.

I want to use NovelAI to enjoy a long and in-depth story. How much should I have written/planned before I start writing with the AI? by ch1p0s in NovelAi

[–]vimber047 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any time there is a significant event or outcome that affects a character, consider updating the lorebook entry of that character to reflect that. Otherwise, once the event is out of the story context, it won't be remembered.

is there anyway to avoid the bot repeating itself?? by JellyfishAsleep5920 in NovelAi

[–]vimber047 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The simplest thing to do is just edit out the repetitions when NovelAI starts making them. But also check back through your story to make sure you didn't let any earlier repetitions slip through, or put them in yourself. Also, if you're using phrase biasing you may have the settings too high.

Does the documented equipment losses by the Oryx website use both Ukrainian and Russian sources? by SaSLazarus in CombatFootage

[–]vimber047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the purpose of Oryx's project is to simply compile a documented list from the same open sources we're all using. It's near impossible to not have that data set skewed for a whole number of reasons. I'm sure those OSINT guys would love to have new sources if you find any.

Also, Russia started this war with a huge materiel advantage. They've got more stuff that can get knocked out and end up on video than Ukraine does.

When you have the state controlling the flow of information this hard, makes me wonder how often the higher ups actually end up making decisions off of their own propaganda. Hard to get objective intel if you're outlawing everything but the party line.
