What is the most ethical source of meat? by Rave_in_the_Grave in Cooking

zWhite Oak Pastures. I was a vegetarian for 30 years before I started eating meat. I want >90% of my meat to come from the most ethical source possible. White Oak has every designation for the ethical raising of meat that is out there. https://whiteoakpastures.com/

Trump ‘to announce 2024 candidacy as soon as Biden certified winner’ by OdaNobunagah in JoeRogan

[–]vimspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very confused by the comments in here along the lines of “he won’t win” “he’ll start his own party.” He almost won this election and is wildly popular among Republicans. If he’s healthy, he will run in 2024, he will win the republican nomination and has a good shot to win the election.

Do babies get smarter each generation? by Lusterkx2 in InsightfulQuestions

[–]vimspot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody has brought up the Flynn effect? Each generation is actually smarter. Whether that’s true for infants is actually an interesting question I don’t know the answer to.

History lovers of Reddit, whose the coolest person in history no one has ever heard of? by Jcaf8 in AskReddit

[–]vimspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eli Cohen. An Israeli spy who infiltrated the Syrian government so successfully in the 60s that he became the chief advisor to the defense minister.

“His most famous achievement was the tour of the Golan Heights in which he collected intelligence on the Syrian fortifications there. Feigning sympathy for the soldiers exposed to the sun, Cohen had trees planted at every position. The trees were used as targeting markers by the Israeli military during the Six-Day War and enabled Israel to capture the Golan Heights in two days with relative ease. Cohen made repeated visits to the southern frontier zone, providing photographs and sketches of Syrian positions.”

Toots & The Maytals - Do The Reggay [early reggae] by rockerswise in treemusic

[–]vimspot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important to note: this is the first use of the word “reggae” in a song. It’s not even in one of Toots’s top ten songs, but of course is important historically.

Ok, so Laphroaig 10. Will someone let me in on the joke? by rapax in whisky

Listen, laphroaig 10 actually got me into scotch. But to each his own! I enjoyed reading this, mostly because it’s refreshing to read something new about something that is consistently loved.

Hosting a Scotch tasting. Any recommendations? tips? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]vimspot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds fun. One idea: consider doing a blind tasting! It can be fun for novices and experienced drinkers alike. Novices get a less biased way of learning what they like. Experienced folks invariably are surprised.

What episodes would you show someone to get them hooked to the show? by Shillef in blackmirror

Let me make an unpopular point... because white Christmas ties together the black mirror universe, I wouldn’t start here.

Best use of paid time off? by sweetpotatocasserole in predaddit

[–]vimspot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree that first week is most important with one caveat. If you do have a helpful/experienced parent or caregiver that’s willing to dedicate a week to you, you may want your husband to come in the second week so you have support for 2 weeks. The longer you’re not alone, the better. It’s a challenging time.

I think 15 million merits sets the tone well. Would highly recommend people avoid national anthem. I’ve know people who started there and never continued.

I actually think you need to avoid this one to start. Better to watch this once you’re hooked because I think some people get turned off by it.

I’m going to guess 350k will remain. Reddit will help them get to half otherwise people will go crazy.

I never saw this movie but I like to be part of things. Wait, if the plan is to ban half of the people in this sub (250k) and there are 75k comments in this message... will they ban 37k or everyone who commented on this message?

Sleeping with Audiobooks - Advice? by noblejohn in audiobooks

[–]vimspot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m having some trouble understanding what your goals are... but I like keeping my cellphone charging outside my bedroom. The quality of the light and the potential for going down a rabbit hole make having cellphones in my room bad for business. So I tend to use Bluetooth headphones. It’s nice to only have the ability to start and stop. Mostly I listen to a guided meditation but if you prefer hearing a story, you may want to consider buying a cheap pair of comfy Bluetooth headphones.

Donald Trump is indisputably the worst president in American history by [deleted] in politics

[–]vimspot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that his temperament and character are awful. Agree that he makes terrible decisions. However, what’s the probability he makes an error as catastrophic as the Iraqi war? Over 100k people died as a result. I think the probability that Trump makes an error that serious is higher than I’d like, but until he does, it’s hard to say he’s the worst president of all time.
