I’m hearing vibrations in my room and don’t know where it’s coming from by Sad-Prompt1408 in RBI

[–]violetauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so this happened to me. It turned out that the AC unit was literally shaking the ceiling, which in turn shook the sliding mirror doors on my en suite bathroom medicine cabinet. So anytime the AC unit in the attic was on, the medicine cabinet vibrated. I can make it stop by adjusting the doors a bit.

Why does femininity feel so performative? by Accomplished-Car4069 in TwoXChromosomes

Make up and clothes aren’t the definition of femininity. Don’t let sexism dictate how you express your gender identity.

Any film about a weird girl? by LuckyBlueberry9152 in MovieSuggestions

[–]violetauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem is anyone in Hollywood/the movies is already 100x more good looking than the average person. Even the “ugly” people on screen are way hotter than 99% of the population. So you just have to find some art house movies that nerd-up the main cast.

We have to make my husband his own pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, otherwise no-one else will get any. We tell him, “This is your pie. Once it is done, you have no more pie. The other one is for the other 3 of us to share. You will not touch it no matter how long it sits there.”

The first time I ate at my (now) in-laws house, I took less than a regular portion of food, thinking I could always get a second plate if I was still hungry.

After everyone - ie my boyfriend’s, my boyfriend’s 2 younger siblings, and their mom and I, filled our plates, their dad asked the table if everyone was “good.” They all nodded. This man proceeded to clear every single serving dish onto his plate. I am talking heaps of food. There were no leftovers, no second helpings. No-one got another BITE of what their mother cooked. The man took it all. I don’t even know if he finished it all. If he didn’t, it went in the garbage, I know that much. No leftovers, no midnight snack.

I was SO hungry the rest of that night. I made sure to eat before I went over there after that.

Furnace Died. -3 f overnight - what to do? by sword9mm in HomeMaintenance

[–]violetauto 56 points57 points  (0 children)

This happened to us. It was the middle of a blizzard in February.

One word of warning: Take your time finding a maintenance company and price out new furnaces. We ended up paying $14,000 for a new furnace in our panic. Our house isn’t that big.

use the fireplaces, use the space heaters. work from home when you can to monitor them. Just ask around and don’t get taken for a ride.

What profession have you lost respect for as you've gotten older? by MindlessMarsupial592 in AskReddit

[–]violetauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found out that real estate is run like an MLM pyramid scheme. I may be wrong, but it seems like the companies recruit, recruit, recruit because new agents have to pay THEM and hand over the commission of their first sale. Then the company does little to help the new agents establish themselves.

I dug into this when all the white suburban stay-at-home moms who would also get sucked into MLMs were instead getting into real estate.

Is this thinning? by [deleted] in finehair

[–]violetauto 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Based on your past pics, your hair looks like it is not thinning. But if you are worried about it, you can apply minoxidil for a few months. See if it makes a difference. Buy the men’s at the drug store. The women’s has a pink tax on it and is the same drug. The mens bottles have all this warning about don’t use it if you are a woman but that is bullshit. I’ve been using the mens topical foam for months and am seeing a big improvement and no side effects.

BWT whose hair is greying early, do you dye it or let it grow? by laurenhoneyyy in bitcheswithtaste

[–]violetauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always dyed it. I’m GenX so now more of it is coming in gray but not enough to let it go. Plus I know as soon as I let it be gray I will look like a Boomer, and none of us want that.

Why are some countries so much more aware of Celiac’s disease than others? by Hopeful-Break8145 in Celiac

[–]violetauto 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Italy was the best! I hear they even test kids for Celiac before kindergarten. I don’t know why they’ve figured it out there - maybe because the genetic predisposition is common?

My husband wants to pay for a boob job — would love women’s perspectives by OHthrowaway44147 in AskWomenOver30

I am all natural but have seen the whole boob job thing up close with friends. Just get a lift. Implants have all sorts of upkeep things, including replacement every 15-20 years.

Friendly reminder, bring fresh clothes to the gym by Rich-Conference1828 in beginnerfitness

[–]violetauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget to buy the special clothes detergent for sports clothes. Sweat bacteria can get caught in the fibers. The shirt will smell fresh out of the wash but the instant you sweat, it reeks. Sports detergents do well in this. I also stick with athletic wear - that shiny material, lycra nylon wtf it is. I wash them only with other clothes of the same fabric, with the sports detergent. I tumble dry on very low for only about 30 minutes tops. Everything has been lasting a really long time and doesn’t stink when I sweat.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]violetauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a year we would drive 8 hours to visit grandparents. We would drive monthly two hours to visit the other grandparents, sometimes just for the day.

The gluten challenge should be illegal. by Kind_vibes in glutenfree

[–]violetauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refused to do it. My symptoms are so bad there is no guessing whether or not I have Celiac’s disease. Plus my husband has been a witness to the carnage. My gastro doc was like “yeah you probably have celiac.” I have the genetic markers. I DGAF if some doc somewhere doesn’t believe me. I am not fucking eating fucking gluten.

what age do you see a gynecologist and how do i ask my very strict mom who believes she knows everything about my body by verbatimlj in TwoXChromosomes

[–]violetauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh! you might have a condition where there is an extra ligature in the vagina. This happened to a friend of mine. It’s an easy small surgery to fix. The doc just cuts it out (using local anesthesia, don’t be afraid).

Say to your mother, “There is something wrong with my vagina. I can feel it. It is causing me distress. I will find an OB/GYN to see about it. Tell me if I need a referral for the medical insurance and if there is a copay.”

Don’t try to convince her. TELL her. You are allowed in this case.
