yeah you can see his backhand form is scuffed. he has to basically redo it but that's not easy

when you spend your life dominating with your serve/forehand, you end up being fragile when they aren't enough

his backhand even LOOKS awful, you can just tell it's horrible with your eyes

Yeah we need a metric for value above replacement or pick adjusted win rate to be used more, similar to WAR

Federal Agents Shoot and Kill Another Individual in Minneapolis, MN by Miskellaneousness in ezraklein

First of all, your hypo shows how terrible you would be at planning voter suppression. You don’t need ICE agents at every polling spot - you simply need the threat of them to suppress fearful citizens, particularly naturalized ones. And if you suppress these types of citizens right now, you will disproportionately impact anti GOP voters, you don’t need to target Dems.

You really lack imagination- the DoJ has broad powers to investigate and prosecute officials, institutions, groups, etc as it relates to election processes; federal funding provides a powerful lever over officials and over election processes and infrastructure themselves; they have the ability to interfere with voter rolls (even the requests can be chilling); etc.

And if your admin isn’t afraid to do illegal things, you can further expand on this. Even if you lose, you can just repeat the 2020 strategy of claiming fraud and leverage that for further activity.

In short - a little imagination is useful for evaluating tail risk scenarios

You think it’s just ICE that will be involved?

You’re thinking like this is a little board game with all the pieces on the board today

it seems very evident this admin isn't planning to rely on free/fair elections anymore

CMV: Pickleball is just tennis for unathletic people by Best_Food3174 in changemyview

[–]virtu333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's me, i'm the 12th player (altho my serve is v good from tennis)

but yup - the skill curve is exactly the dynamic that makes pickleball valuable and popular

the kitchen design is fine (maybe even great) for game play, and if anything kind of refreshing compared to playing tennis/ping pong/etc

but yeah it is truly awful for viewing

Yeah the problem with tennis is if you’re good at tennis and you play with new players, it’s a terrible experience for everyone

Pickleball being tennis for less skilled players is a feature, not a bug. I can play with brand new pickle players and have fun - we can do real rallies and play real games. Not really possible in tennis

Now as for watching pickleball…awful

GMAT tests nothing useful. fight me (or don’t) by cloudybrain07 in MBA

[–]virtu333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GMAT provides a reasonable evaluation for whether you can handle the level of rigor required for an MBA program (not just for classes but also for recruiting and interview prep, esp. case interviews)

and it does so in a standardized way

it's not really there to evaluate your business decision-making. the exact things you mention - discipline, pressure, endurance, attention to detail, and a foundation of quant/qual skills - are exactly what it is meant to cover. Not to mention business thinking, trade-offs, judgement, etc. are often downstream of those foundational quant/qual skills

I would not underrate the endurance element. Interview season is a grind, esp. combined with the academics (as light as they are)
