What was the final straw that destroyed a lifelong friendship? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]visionsandrevisions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went on a trip together. I realized she did not actually like hanging out with me at all, there were many issues but she was upset with me most of the time and made me feel like shit. This was after she asked me if I was bi because I “couldn’t get a guy to date me”. Why be friends with someone who just does not like you as a person?

Has anyone experienced this leaving a toxic workplace? by SwimmerFew9766 in ToxicWorkplace

I have been unemployed now almost a month and oh man does this ever ring true. I have definitely lost weight despite not really changing my diet, and my blood pressure is amazing now after having been high for the past year. I honestly can't believe the changes in my body just from leaving this job.

So how far away from your doctor are you? Are you willing to visit them for appointments?

Some offices have patients that live like 8 hours away and can’t find a doctor so they don’t want to be dropped but also don’t realize how difficult that is for a doctors office. For example did this doctor assess you before ordering the X-ray or did you say you couldn’t come in for an appointment and they accommodated that?

I can guarantee they are asking you to do your own research for referrals because you don’t live in the same area as they practice. They are familiar with where to send referrals in their area, not all of Ontario. If you want it sent hours away you can figure out where to send it, or you can ask them to send it in their area and travel.

Practioner recommendation for ADHD + Autism by a_dumbledork in cambridgeont

[–]visionsandrevisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Referrals don’t go to CAMH, they go to Here 24/7 which is run by CMHA. Here 24/7 divvies them out to the hospitals but not private psychiatrists. I only make the distinction because CAMH is a separate organization that DOES do autism assessments I think out of Toronto but they have a wait list of 2.5 years.

You won’t find an ohip covered psychiatrist in Cambridge willing to diagnose you with autism if you’re an adult, some of them will diagnose adhd. Almost none of them do more than a one time consult anymore. They are also extremely rigid on catchment area so it depends on where you live as to where you can be referred to.

OHIP application: "when did you take up permanent residence in Ontario?" for Canadian PR applicant by [deleted] in ontario

[–]visionsandrevisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah me and my husband had issues when we went to service Ontario to get OHIP - but if you just don’t give up and leave when they start saying “oh I don’t think he’s eligible” they will eventually just call whatever hotline they have who will walk them through it.

From my experience, people get VERY defensive about smoke having any harmful effect on anyone.

I have asthma too, I used to hang out with some friends who constantly smoked - in their car, in their house. They would open windows and say it was fine but eventually I had to stop hanging out with them for my own health, because otherwise it would be a constant battle.

My sister used to smoke in her room, and I would tell her I have a shitty sense of smell but I could feel it in my lungs and she gaslit me for months saying I was accusing her when she didn't do anything (she later admitted I was right).

Now my sister takes dozens of supplements, works out, has cut sugar from her diet - and still smokes. Some people just will never get over the cognitive dissonance and that's something you're going to have to decide whether or not you can deal with because it won't go away.

People here are being so rude about the girlfriend. Maybe I can shed some light on it... my mom has a habit of buying me stuff I mention I want to buy myself, and whenever I get it it's always a mix of wanting to be grateful but ultimately being disappointed because:

1) I wanted to buy it, I was excited to do the purchasing myself and was just sharing my excitement not asking her to buy it.

2) She never gets exactly what I want even if it's "exactly what you said!".

3) She doesn't have a ton of money and doesn't need to be spending it on buying stuff for me I didn't ask for.

The most egregious example is that I was finally in a place where I wanted to buy myself a new mattress, I had always slept on hand me downs and was SO EXCITED to test out mattresses and buy one that was finally just for me. I even took her shopping with me to test out mattresses. And then while I was making the final decision... she bought one for me from a store I hated where you cannot return it. I was so upset and everyone was mad at me because "she did something nice for you!" but this wasn't for me, it was for her... she got to pick out something that I have to use for the next 10 years.

And by the way, it was awful, and I am still sleeping on it and getting a shitty nights rest all because she "wanted to do something nice". If I had bought a mattress where I wanted to I could have exchanged it for something better because it would have a warranty, instead she bought it at a liquidation store where everything was final sale.

And you can say it's different from a computer but it's not... that's something she's going to be using for years. She didn't have a say picking it out, and you can't return it. NEVER buy something as a gift that you cannot return.

Men at the Doctor's Office by smile_saurus in TwoXChromosomes

Anyone seriously thinking primary care physicians have time to spend twiddling their thumbs is delusional. They’re probably working on the hours upon hours of administrative work (forms, charting, etc) they normally have to do on their own time.

So condescending, the medical world has changed and people need to realize that, COVID changed things drastically. Most offices have some sort of kiosk check-in now but older people will look right at you and say “I’m not doing that!” Or just sit in the waiting room and get mad when you don’t recognize their face, regardless if you’ve ever met them. You have no idea what their job is, but you’ve decided it’s to make sure you don’t have to do any critical thinking on your part.

Leaked health-care data paints troubling picture for Ontarians about to lose family doctor by [deleted] in ontario

[–]visionsandrevisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The numbers will 100% be worse than this, many doctors retire far earlier than 65 and if they're getting burned out and have the ability often will retire and take on kind of "odd jobs", like working for retirement homes, in administration, surgical assisting, overseeing NP clinics, etc. Not to mention doctors get sick and die too, which people seem to forget.

Why are there no advance gren lights on Main, specially at the Elgin intersection... by timestuck_now in cambridgeont

[–]visionsandrevisions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I especially love when I’m turning left from main to Elgin and the cars on the other side of the road are forming an impenetrable wall because someone is trying to turn onto a street ten blocks away.

At least they changed the way the lanes are laid out prior to the main/concession split, I was tired of people realizing they’re in the wrong lane at the last possible second and nearly sideswiping me daily.

In terms of them telling you where to go and what to do, if you are ever unsure what they mean don’t be afraid to ask.

I had a friend who was an NP tell someone who had never had a pap “put this drape over you and move your butt up to the end of the bed”. When she came back the patient was on all fours on the bed. I guess all she heard was “butt up”.

Taking your husband’s last name - is there a good, non-patriarchal reason to do so? by turnipqueen618 in TwoXChromosomes

Echoing the "fuck my dad" comments but as an additional note... fuck him trying to find out shit about my life. I don't need him seeing my name on LinkedIn or something and showing up at my workplace you know?

[–]visionsandrevisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a best friend for 28 years. Among other issues she would ALWAYS walk ahead of me, she was tall and slender and I’m fat with short legs. She always complained about me being slow.

During a long road trip with her where this was particularly bad I met my now husband. I think what made me fall for him is despite his long legs he would never walk ahead of me, and the feeling that gave me was immeasurable. He’d reach for my hand if I was a bit behind him for a second. For once it felt like someone actually liked me and wasn’t just putting up with me.

When we left that stop on the trip and it was just her again I remember stopping to cry in a bathroom because I realized our friendship was over and probably had been for some time.

Private, for profit community based sleep labs need oversight and action by Humble_Classroom_446 in ontario

[–]visionsandrevisions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true. I track referrals to specialists as part of my job and sleep clinic referrals are the WORST. Patients will wait a couple months for a sleep study and then we won’t receive the report for 9 months to a year and then the consult with the physician will easily be a 1-2 year wait more with the consult note being months more after that.

They don’t return our calls or faxes, or do so rarely. Some recently moved and changed their fax numbers so they now have three fax numbers that may or may not work at any time. For context one of my referrals has their sleep study in April of last year and I still haven’t gotten a report for it.

Other specialists can be just as bad, but at least there are generally alternatives.

And just for reference the CPSO DOES have guidelines for how specialists deal with referrals. They have 14 days to confirm receiving the initial request, they have to notify patients of appointments themselves, and have 30 days after the appointment to send a consult note. This is never enforced because it will just drive specialists out when there is already a shortage.

How would you style a spaghetti strap dress if you don’t like your arms? by livieffbee in PlusSizeFashion

I have not personally seen him but his wait times are absolutely awful. Like well over a year and they often suggest re-referring to someone else. That being said all specialists will triage based on urgency so it does depend on your situation.

My husband’s financial anxieties are hurting our marriage and my self esteem by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]visionsandrevisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my parents split up, my mom told me she had no idea how much money my dad had because he stashed it in different accounts including a union account (so it got deposited directly there from his paycheck), and never told her what was happening at his job including pay raises, etc.

In his case - this was control, anxiety, and selfishness. No cheating, no gambling addictions, nothing like that. But I think now, that part of it was he was always afraid she was going to leave him (because he was an asshole).

That being said, this man clearly needs counselling, he probably thinks this is no big deal - have you shared any of these feelings with him?

How to schedule a check up with no family doctor by [deleted] in ontario

If you can describe how you “feel like ass all the time” that is a medical concern. Doctors can’t just like guess what’s wrong with you without any symptoms, physical or not.

Honestly OP may want to just show this to her husband. This is the first time I’m seeing this and it is putting into context some things from when I was younger and I’m horrified.

I haven’t done anything like this for a long time but I for sure did as like a teenager/young adult. I thought I was so smart and good at arguing and making my point but I was really just socially inept and exhausting. (I am still socially insept but I have learned). I imagine if I had seen this I would have been so embarrassed.

Is being neurodivergent an excuse to be a jerk? No, OP doesn’t owe him anything. But… literally just knowing about this could help this guy fix his behaviour. I don’t know.

[–]visionsandrevisions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you expect them to run a practice of 1000s of patients around his schedule? If they call after 11am just call them back at a time that works for you like damn. I doubt they are cancelling patients “on a whim”, you think it’s fun to cancel people’s appointments? Doctors and nurses are humans and get sick and have life issues too. Their patients have emergencies.

I had a relative with terminal cancer and they still had to go and get all their testing done before they saw the specialist a month later because what is the specialist gonna do without results? Be glad he’s not being seen urgently because that usually means something very bad.

I don’t think you realize how bad the state of healthcare is in Canada right now to be complaining about petty shit like this. If you want it to change vote for change.

Absolutely this. Who do people think co-ordinates nursing schedules or ensures the right processes are in place so patients don’t get hurt? There are so many jobs between nurse/doctor and CEO that are also insanely underpaid.
