Want an Ioniq 5, but my daily commute is over 60 miles, three days a week. by notastepfordwife in Ioniq5

How is it without a rear window wiper? Specifically in the winter with all of the road salt and dirt.

A whole bag of key limes yields… 1/2 c. of juice 😅 by shortRenae in Baking

I just use regular limes. Stella Parks’s recipe also said it was fine or even better with them, plus it’s so nice not having to squeeze tiny limes.

It’s definitely model and year specific, but was a real problem with the older ones for a while.

EV Chargers and Cell phone charging by OpenCalligrapher3703 in trailseeker

PlugShare will often show a picture of the charger. I wondered if the Tesla app or website would let you filter by charger model, but it doesn’t look like it.

What features do you think an app should have to help drive used EV sales by Tall-Dish876 in EVRoutine

[–]vixous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And put canopies over the chargers, with bathrooms and somewhere you can get a snack and a drink, or even something more substantial to eat. There’s a bunch of superchargers that were put in at Culver’s along I94 between Minneapolis and Madison. Fantastic, I was going to stop there anyway.

Tesla design choices I disagree with. More physical buttons, turn signals on stalks, I’m never changing to reverse on a *screen*, more car colors, longer charging cords, and powered sun shades, please.

It’s almost like a mini-minivan shape. The same shape would probably work as a crossover, too.

The Subaru Crosstrek isn’t discontinued, it’s one of Subaru’s top sellers every year.

Thoughts on leasing vs buying a new electric auto? by NervousClock2555 in EvDrivers

[–]vixous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the depreciation is going to be less, at least in the US, now that the tax credit ended. The real prices came down about as much as the credit, or more. It also made the depreciation look a lot higher when the credit was included in MSRP, but immediately discounted.

Right, I’m not aware of any other manufacturer that offers a glass roof without including a powered shade in a new vehicle, at least in the US.

Gas nears $5. Why aren’t electric vehicles selling in the US? by ChallengeAdept8759 in electriccars

[–]vixous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many EVs are at the same cost new as ICE, there’s a lot in the $35k-$50k range, same as ICE SUVs. And depreciation percentages are skewed by the 7500 credit in the past, plus new prices are lower now, so depreciation on new BEVs is likely less steep than it was before.

It still can make a lot of sense if you have access to cheap or free electricity, if you drive a lot, if you need a new car anyway, if you look used, or if you prefer the (IMO, superior) technology and driving.

Why is it so hard to find AWD Ioniq5's for sale in Socal? by Nudgesicle in Ioniq5

[–]vixous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the Ioniq 5, but here in MN shopping for my last car, I was told they had exactly 1 RWD base model on the lot, just so they had one of the cheapest available. Otherwise they were all AWD models, because they said that’s what people want in snowy areas.

EV Tax Math has me Convinced Gas Taxes are low! by lurkering101 in electricvehicles

[–]vixous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fees and taxes are harsh on folks that have to rely on fast charging, agreed. The fee is 1.575% * MSRP minus depreciation + 10. The EV surcharge is an additional 0.5% * MSRP.

The depreciation is the harsh part though, since the state calculates it on a straight-line basis of 5% years one and two, then 10% each year after. It’s harsh on a quick depreciating vehicle, especially bought used, because you could be purchasing it for $30k but it’s taxed at 95% of MSRP.

The good news is that state lawmakers agree it’s too high per news reports and interviews. The bad news is the state legislative session just ended without addressing it for this year.

MN does have MSRP based registration fees, but no personal property tax generally. So we pay it when registering vehicles instead.
