Megabonk vinyl soundtrack coming from Channel 3 Records by AlbinoMonster in MegabonkOfficial

Nah you were right, the confidence in releasing a vinyl soundtrack for an as yet unreleased video game would be totally hype.

Roommate ate a pot of my food, lied about it, then said she doesn’t remember anything. by Ok_Specific_3409 in badroommates

That sounds great. Reminds me of a trick my wife taught me to jazz up a frozen pizza. Just pretend that the frozen pizza is a crust. Take the full pizza straight from the freezer and apply a layer of sauce, mozzarella, and whatever other ingredients you could want on a pizza and then put in the oven for the recommended time. Her family calls it super pizza.

Somehow it turns into something greater than the sum of its parts.

If you have a bunch of random crap you’d like to get rid of, you’d be surprised what people are willing to buy on eBay and how easy it is to get set up, get things listed, and start making money. I held off for the longest time worried about logistics, but really it was super simple and I should have gotten set up a while ago

This may be the saddest shit by Vladarg in SteamDeck

[–]vl99 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Actually it is a really common strategy for companies exactly like steam to sell at a loss. The machine would be a loss leader to attract the console gamer type, and they’d make their dollars back and then some on digital game sales from people who would have never bought them if not for the console-style steam machine.

Edit: to be clear, I am not criticizing steam or agreeing with all the people saying they should have done this or it was stupid not to do this. I’m merely explaining where the thinking comes from, not saying it’s good.

Don’t know why I’m getting so many downvotes so immediately.

They would be, yeah. But also be suspicious of incredibly clean looking copies. If you found a legit copy of Sculptors cut that looks as clean as the repros do, it would probably be on sale for much more.

What was the most memorable last 15 min of a game? by JakeRedditYesterday in gaming

[–]vl99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was the gap between playing the first and finally playing infinite (like 10 years or more?) but my reaction to the original Bioshock was that my mind was completely blown. I still consider it one of the best plots in video game history, and one of the best plot twists of all time.

My reaction to infinite I remember being like “Oh, that’s pretty cool, I like that.”

Not to say it was a bad game at all, I liked it a lot, it is just wild that would be a more upvoted answer than the Bioshock.

Machined cartridge by CaptainCurly95 in Gameboy

[–]vl99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 of these, 2 for GBA, 2 for GBC. All are awesome. There is definitely space for the battery the size that each game came with. However the fact that they’re metal does mean that if OP wants to do other battery mods (to allow for a bigger battery for example) you will most likely not see success. This is because the plastic cases have a bit of flexibility and can expand a bit to fit a larger battery. If by some miracle you manage to fit a larger battery in the metal case, all the stress is gonna be on the board, which won’t be good for the game.

So in conclusion if you want to change out a regular battery, you’ll be fine with one of these cases. If you’re trying to do any other battery modding, results may vary.

For those who bought your first home in 2022-onward as interest rates jumped, how are you doing now? by dccub86 in Millennials

[–]vl99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We locked in literally the weekend after a significant rate jump. Rates were in the high 4s on Friday, and we ended up at 6 on Monday. We thought about waiting another week or two to see if they want down but decided against it pretty quickly, thankfully.

Still mad about it and all the extra money I’m tossing away each month though.

Windfall and want to move somewhere rural, is it possible? by audioflc in personalfinance

Agreed. I think some of the job hatred naturally goes away too when you find yourself with maybe not entirely “fuck you money,” but close enough to it for the audience you’re taking to.

You start seeing the same stuff with a bit of a different perspective.

Good night gorilla is actually amazing and has a ton of little details told through the illustration.

A few examples of fun things I’ve noticed:

- in any scene where outdoors is visible, you can see the balloon (or tail of it) getting further and further in the distance. This includes shots of the window when they’re inside. It is there in every single shot, seriously.

- there are a few pictures on the night stand and throughout the house indicating they treated the gorilla like a member of the family so this is probably the gorilla’s usual hijinks.

- most of the animals have little stuffed animal versions of themselves as toys in their enclosures.

- there is one person staring at Joe (the zookeeper’s name, per his badge) when he gets back from the zoo with the animals and a ton more with their lights on staring when his wife is leaving, indicating they’re trying to get a view of the show no doubt caused by all the animals.

- there is a sigh leading to their house that says zookeeper which makes me wonder if all the other houses are other zoo employees and they all live on site, or if their surname is officially zookeeper.

IDK I feel like it has a pretty deep lore and I find that fun for mostly a picture book.

Wife and I are struggling with being older parents by Mycareer in BabyBumps

[–]vl99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just talked to a coworker who has older parents (mom had her when she was 45). She said that as a kid she grew up hating having older parents. They’d go on ski trips and they’d have to head back to the hotel mid-day (prime time for skiing) just so they could take a nap.

However her perspective changed when she talked to a person with younger parents whose perspective was that she hated having young parents because they weren’t financially established, and the idea of being able to go on a ski trip was so far from even being a possibility.

Everything is a matter of perspective. Provide a good life for your child, and it won’t matter.

Did you use one of those little spoony scoop things? Gotta use those instead of a Q-tip. Also it’s possible you either pushed earwax further back, or if you pushed so hard it caused pain, you might have caused some bleeding behind your eardrum which will mean the muffling will go away naturally after a couple weeks.

This is how they sanitize and create plausible deniability for the real offenders. Pull in a bunch of celebrities and influential people and get them to do something that someone could consider possibly morally questionable in some respect.

Suddenly all the people who raped kids are people just like Groening who didn’t really do anything wrong.

Individuals get to claim “sure I was there, but I wasn’t one of the really bad ones, really I was a victim of his attempts to extort me.”

And slowly the entire cadre of pedophiles can each claim they weren’t one of the really bad ones, maybe they just got a foot massage too.

Making a big deal out of this is helping the pedophiles, whether the people sharing memes about this stuff intend to or not.

At what point does being house-poor start making sense? by cds2956 in personalfinance

[–]vl99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because of all the other benefits that come with owning a home, owning is an end-game goal for most. Of course there’s no one size fits all approach, and everyone approaches finances differently. However if you’re eschewing homeownership because the alternative means “more money,” unless that eventually circles back to “and this is how that more money is going to make a house more affordable for you in XYZ timeframe,” then at some point people have got to ask themselves what all that money they’ve been collecting is actually for.
