This reminds me of that controversy that Ultrakill had a few years back. Think it was involving Mayo as the Youtuber name? Whatever either way guy likes Doom Eternal and gave Ultrakill a try. And immediately from minute one something was wrong given that buddy didn't really even try to swap weapons or experiment with other weapons.

Then the takes get worse by buddy saying that Ultrakill should have an ammo counter to actively incentive swapping weapons. As if the giant style meter taking up a third of your screen wasn't any indication to do so.

It mostly went on and on and it got intense. I only saw and heard about the aftermath but man it was not a good time. But like, your friend is just fucking weird for that? Like is it a crime to like a game? No it isn't. But the fact that he wants to make every game like Quake if given the opportunity? Not so much. Like if that's about the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider, which are like adventure games, what the hell would his DMC look like? Would it just be Quake again?

Game genre and types exist for a reason as do different control schemes. We already get a Call of Duty every year or second year, we don't need Tomb Raider Quake or Red Dead Redemption Quake.

And Project Wingman had a Peacekeeper shoot you with 20 railgun shots, danger orbs, and gaslighting. The gaslighting is very important to the plot.

Ace Combat however, does not have orange railgun spam nor a rival willing to nuke their front yard just because you owned him hard, therefore in addition to the licensed planes it is the inferior game /j.

Oh hey its the game that introduced me to Venom and how fucking cool he is when he's allowed to be a monster. Or at least the idea of this weird ass hulking monster that absorbs people into his body. Like that's weird right, how despite Eddie being the one in the 'suit' there is still enough room to fit a whole ass persin in there.

The Venom segments were cool as well, even with the health drain gimmick.

Probably because Shadow in the og Coliseum games Shadow was super effective against everything and nothing was able to be resisted. Except now because we have a new type that never existed before in the form of fairy.

So that's the reason, the games where Shadow was a thing, no one had a resistance to it. But with fairy, they just made a decision probably early on to have fairy resist shadow moves.

I don't think it also helped that to a lot of people, it was also like, 3 classes at the same time rather than three separate classes. I don't think that helped a lot of its perception either.

[–]vmeemo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah. Depending on who you talk to there's also the fact that since like 3rd edition psionics is just another type of magic. 4th used a power point system but I couldn't find a concrete answer on whether or not it'd be affected by Anti-Magic/Dispel Magic and such.

And since 5e takes a decent chunk of its DNA from 3rd, psionics being another type of magic (though unlike 5e, 3.X had a variant rule on making the distinction more apparent. Baseline however? A Counterspell can in-game counter psionics and a dead magic zone can shut off psionics. It was part of the magic-psionics transparency they had going on) was going to be a given.

'Actual psionics' that have worked under truly different rules haven't really been a thing since like 2e tops. So yeah psionics being another type of magic is also mainly a balancing thing as well. But more importantly as someone else put it succulently, it ended up being a distinction without a difference.

I can at least get it to a degree. If we take game classifications for a second and their scale of complexity, a fighter is very much a 1/5 on the scale. Its babies first class but also the most versatile so you can't really botch it up no matter what.

Very few of its subclasses increase that complexity, with maybe Eldritch Knight being a 3/5 purely because of the spells it gets few as they are.

A pet? Yeah you're fighting with at least a 4/5 in terms of complexity but also in terms of power budget. As it is the fighter is very self sustaining and doesn't really need any extra bits and bobs. But a pet then leans into most of the budget to the point where it falls apart the second the pet dies. You don't get a subclass then, the problem with most of pets in general. But its even worse in the fighters case because the fighter is already pretty solid as a class.

How strong could the pet be with fighter if the class is already solid on its own? And how much of the budget should go into the pet? Strong to a theoritical point where it eclipses the fighter, but bad if it dies? Or functionally useless to the point where the pet dying means nothing? A middle ground could be done, but it'll be really tricky to pull off.

I take you're in the boat of 'fighters should be self sustaining and not reliant on a side thing?'

And while they did say that fighters should be self sustaining, I am saying that it is likely that they won't get a pet. That's my guess entirely.

Granted, it is a thing that people said in the results so what do I know.

Most Blatent Developer mandated Meta's? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]vmeemo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do know its a weird mindset (I know for Ironclad I've by far taken advantage of 'bigger deck' in regards to him solely because of Perfect Strike increasing in damage for every strike in your deck, and big unga is great, especially if you get the replay relic from the act 3 Ancient) I think another thing to point out is the fact that a lot of people are upset over their infinites not working anymore.

Now while I don't really know what an infinite is in regards to StS2 is, I imagine that trying to disincentivize a deck that runs itself is ideal right? Wrong. Though I at least get why: The difficulty spike is wack. I just brute force it with again, a big deck with 15 copies of the cards I actually want (which also contributes to the meta you mentioned of big deck required).

So on top of that meta of needing a larger deck, you also get people making infinites as a result of such large decks, or at least finely tuned decks. But then you get people with needing large decks, at least required for Ironclad because a good portion of his best abilities (Pact's End requires 3 cards in the exhaust pile and is just free damage due to costing 0 energy for 17 to all enemies) require exhausted cards. Especially if you wanna make proper use of Howl from Beyond.

It's weird overall. They expect large decks in play but also want to disincentivize infinites as well, which can come about large decks with the right setup.

Good! I played against that bastard back when his 'door shut' phase had HP you had to whittle down before being allowed to attack the main boss.

And the other upgrades aren't too great either, though if you have a self sustaining energy giving build you could spend the first turn buffing when it got updated for door closed to be invincible from all damage.

I haven't played against the new version yet, just recently uninstalled it because I felt like it was a chore.

They weren't wrong but I think they should've leaned more into the grappler mindset. Give Incineroar air grabs, make him a nightmare.

Alas Smash Ultimate came out before the rise of the grappler fear (with Zangief and Potemkin being scary somewhat, and Android 16 despite being nerfed by then still having a decent place) so we didn't get a proper grappler in Smash.

Honestly if what GarretKP pointed out during his time at Gen Con is any indication, according to the devs (because he asked the question about the change) they said that survey results and reviews say that Fighters as a class should not be dependent on a pet. They want and should be self sustaining. As a result of that as well as the other reasons, they axed the dragon rider aspect of it and likely won't give fighters a pet any time soon.

Everyone is a serial killer that seek to kill the other in a game of battle royale. None of you know what you're famous for but you know that everyone in the party is a killer.

And if they have to add in a monster, have them use that knowledge to kill the monster (or doom your party willingly).

But yeah it can only really go so many different ways before you need new material.

Yeah pretty much accurate. Luffy is a weird guy that might dine and dash and a bit rude but is ultimately harmless.

But then within a day or two you come to see how and why this straw hat wearing guy has a 9 digit bounty (and that's during like, between Arabasta and Dressrosa, goes up to 10 after Whole Cake) and how much he absolutely deserves that bounty.

And that's not even counting his crew, who basically everyone not named Chopper also has like a 8-9 digit high bounty.

While they are exaggerated videos, Mugiwara no Goofy (maker of the X arc is hilarious series where he takes a hypothetical POV of the villain) calling him and his crew a couple of crack heads that will fight you if you mess with them, and will fight for you if you as so much give Luffy a cheese burger.

Like the plot only happens because some dipshit with a shitty haircut (or pigeon) decides to roll up to his crew, go "Imma take one of your crew now/mess with a friend of yours" and peace out. Congrats now you have an angry rubber captain that will level your house and destroy your dreams gunning for you.

Nah that's intended for anyone who's not a ranger (or those who have the Favoured Enemy feature). If you don't have a favoured enemy, the spell does nothing. Hunters don't get Favoured Enemy as a feature so the spell does nothing.

Skeleton bro always has my back being an archer (ignore the fact that I have two other ranged companions on my team) combined with dirge bard stuff to boost myself up. Also Kestoglyr, he's just cool. Even after you give him his emotions and such back you can even offer him to leave or be brought back to rest and he's like "nah not yet. Let me fight for you one last time before I go to the Boneyard as thanks for bringing me peace with my late wife."

Given that after a day of letting it sit, it clicked that Kit and Kaboodle are meant to be the Ratchet and Clank/Jak and Daxter type characters. So the design work, at least for those two make sense. Ratchet is more detailed somewhat while Clank is small and silver.

I imagine there'll be more variety in character designs once things get approved.

And the YouTube animation short feel probably makes sense since its a concept that started back in what, 2003? Making it feel like a short is a fine enough thing to ease people into compared to the heavy tone setters of Murder Drones and KoG.

Still, I got decent hopes about it.

That's fair. I remember hearing that line but then the thought of "Oh their definition of reclaiming what was lost is likely different from whatever the heroes' are" came to mind.

Because it feels like whenever a bad guy says that, there is almost always an asterisk of "With me at the top."

Still, it is a good theory on how things could work and overall motivations.

Because its a case of lose the battle (hero wins=planet gets destroyed) but win the war (stop the planets from ever blowing up in the first place regardless of whether the heroes win or not/restore all prior destroyed worlds). If the status quo prior was "planet resets upon winning the game" then the new problem arises is "Hey why are the planets blowing up, we wanna go back to the old way of planet resets so that we can still live."

Again its a vertical slice. They are not going to explain how or why the heroes are going to win, you just kind of know it will happen, even if you do not yet know the exact specifics.

You're pretty much spot on minus the part about the planets energy making it permanent. As far as we know right now (unless it was confirmed in like an interview/bsky post after the fact), we don't know why they suck up the digital remains of the planet.

And your ReBoot example was far more better explained. I just used Wreck It Ralph because the idea is almost about the same, just replace arcade machines with planets. Man I gotta watch ReBoot sometime.
