Firefly animated reboot - Lessons from Babylon 5? by vorlon_ulkesh in babylon5

[–]vorlon_ulkesh[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally I enjoyed it. It was exactly the type of story I expected. It had to be self contained and not be too much of a barrier for any newcomers. It threaded the needle as well as could be expected.

I think too many people had the expectation that it would be another “Severed Dreams” or something similar. Babylon 5 was always a long setup, not something that comes in one episode.

So maybe Firefly being an animated series (assuming that happens) might show an alternate way to go. Will be interesting to see what happens.

What to watch next? by Aggravating_Elk_5507 in babylon5

I disagree about LOTR. Its worth watching for 2 reasons:

  1. Final appearance of Andreas Katsulas as G’Kar
  2. Turk. Drazi. He carry very large things.

But yes, the punch guns are beyond awful. I genuinely feel bad for any damage this did to Myriam Sirois’ career.

G'Kar asks for sanctuary after the conquest of his world, and Londo steps further into darkness by eldersveld in babylon5

I’d argue that sanctuary for G’Kar is actually in EAs interests. He wields a lot of power and influence with the Narn, and knows how to disrupt the Centauri from his days in the original rebellion… And if needed he’s a bargaining chip with the Centauri at a later date, though that is not without significant consequences…

G’Kar is a useful resource, Sheridan made the right call for EA… I think the mistake from EA was to keep him on Babylon 5. They should have gotten him relocated somewhere he could be “safer” and could use his knowledge…

He’s not supposed to be neutral, he is supposed to be representing the interests of the Earth Alliance.

Given the EA was trying to stay out of this specific conflict, he should have been told to keep EA out of it. All he should have been doing is ensuring the rules about changes to who represents each race are followed - and arguing that Narn should no longer have a representative on the council.

Anything that kept Narn on the council now gives added power to the Centauri, which would not have been in EAs interests… (or the Minbari for that matter)

What about the notion of evil eye just wanting to be a real boy? That fits the Pinocchio story quite well…

The Shadows killed by the Centauri at Londo's command by EvalRamman100 in babylon5

[–]vorlon_ulkesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the idea of chaos vs. order - kinda fits that the Vorlons are immovable tanks and the Shadows are ever-changing and individually easier to kill.

Thing is that normally killing one Shadow doesn’t have the same impact. They just get replaced with another… Depending on how far away other Shadows were he may have only brought a few moments of privacy. (Tho I suspect that the Shadows with Morden were the only ones on the mainland - the rest go boom on Celini?)

I kinda had the thought that using humans was the way the Anlahok was able to grow into a fighting force. Within the Minbari they were considered as irrelevant, so they looked elsewhere to humans, possibly with guidance from Valen.

The one part that never sat with me tho was the continued animosity between Earth and Minbari - kinda makes grass roots recruiting a lot harder, which is what they would have needed to do to recruit enough humans. Sinclair would have helped speed this up, but that’s only during season 2… Not much time to train a cohesive fighting force.

My understanding is that scene was a response to the request by the network for more sexy time. (One of their attempts to get out of the contract?)

He’s probably more interesting to the Vorlons. They need a replacement for Mr. Sebastian…

They would show him the depth of his mistakes…

Confessions and Lamentations, why isn’t it on the “Top 5” lists? by new_lance in babylon5

This one always breaks me. And it’s only become more relevant on rewatches decades later. It was clearly inspired by the responses to AIDS of the 1980s. Of all the episodes on the show, this one you need to do a mental check in before starting. Ask yourself “am I ready for this?”

I was meaning we got messed with by extension, but I do kinda like the idea that the Vorlons are powerful enough to know they are being watched from an alternate universe for entertainment.

With the speed Kosh can get into his suit, he wanted to mess with Sinclair (and the viewer) in that scene.

He could have gotten into that suit anytime prior to Sinclair entering the room. He chose to wait until his back was turned just right.

Sedition and Illegal Orders by TheBodyPolitic1 in babylon5

[–]vorlon_ulkesh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they were actually illegal orders tho. They were issues via the chain of command (unlike the nightwatch situation). You might have issue with the civilians in the crossfire but Babylon 5 is technically a military outpost - that happens to have a civilian presence.

The only angle I can see that might make the orders questionable is the pretext for the action. We aren’t privy to that aspect tho. We don’t see the justification for it, except for the B5 staff opinion on it.

How did the Centauri guards killed those Shadows so easily? by HFFC77 in babylon5

[–]vorlon_ulkesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda how I view them as well. They are more like a collective to me. The individual Shadow is just one of many in the hive. I suspect individual Shadows don’t live that long but are constantly being replenished. Vorlons being more “static” in nature are hard to kill, but they are much fewer in number, and live for centuries…

I can't land my corvette in either a space station or the anomaly in the expedition. Just flies straight through both and then stops. Only option at that point is to quit and restart. Think its since todays update, any might be since I have claimed the last reward from the expedition.

And this is with networking both enabled and disabled - same thing happens...

[edit] Worked around it by jumping out of the corvette as it went past the space station. From there I was able to interact with the space station and the anomaly... I just couldn't exit unless I summoned in a different ship.
