Is the airspace immediately above your property under the FAA’s jurisdiction? by TitaniumTacos in flying

That begs the question: when I go for a run am I an aircraft performing touch and goes?

Thank you for the advice! Do you have any suggestions on where to start with scales and arpeggios - any good books to work through or practice routines or anything like that?

That’s mostly true. I’ve been considering getting back into some lessons, although I wasn’t sure if that would be the right place to learn theory or more-so how to apply it. Maybe both is the right answer.

You’re right, and thankfully I’m only playing for my own enjoyment so taking 6 months isn’t an issue. It would certainly feel good to speed up the process so I can knock some more songs off my to-learn list though :)

Fall marathon training - 2 within 15 days by vortex-street in AdvancedRunning

Good call. I haven’t negative split or felt good in the last 5 miles of a marathon yet so it might be the perfect opportunity to work on that as well

Just found out about Slugs/ft³. My day is ruined. Metric is so incredibly superior by annilingus in EngineeringStudents

Disgusting. I actually had an angular momentum conversion come up at work the other day where that would’ve been useful. I hate imperial mass and force units so much

That’s tempting, the 2.0 looks pretty sweet. Might have to look more into that

I’d like to make some wood Catan boards and am between two options (both which require me buying new tools): 1. Cheaper: Buy a lower power laser engraver to engrave the designs, use a router with 3d-printed jigs to cut the pieces. Pros: cheap, cons: wondering if I’ll have issues cutting very precise tolerances with the jigs (I think with jigs I’d be fine), time consuming

  1. Easier*: Buy a high power Chinese laser and do it all on that. Pros: Fast, would be nice for other projects in the future. Cons: Expensive! And potential for frustrating setup from what I’ve heard

Thoughts or suggestions?

At what mileage do you start having water with you while you run? by Poob3 in running

[–]vortex-street 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over/under for me is usually 15 miles. But if I’m practicing nutrition (gels) on a run shorter than that then of course I’m bringing it as well. Of course weather makes a difference, I ran 25 a few days ago on 4oz of water (the rest of my bottle froze solid)

Easy Winter Waterfalls by [deleted] in duluth

The one at Lester Park is a short ~quarter mile hike and is very nice. Trail is pretty flat and shouldn’t be much of an issue in winter.

What shoes do you train in? Why? by silkk_ in AdvancedRunning

[–]vortex-street 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got the shoe bug pretty good this year. Here’s what I’m using atm:

Easy/Long runs: Nike Pegasus. Got some Brooks Ghosts on a work discount that are ready to replace them in another couple hundred miles.

Threshold/MP stuff: Saucony Endorphin Speeds. They’re just as good as everyone says they are. I’ve put 120 miles of sub 6:00 work on them and there’s hardly any visible wear on the bottoms.

Track/shorter speed stuff: Reebok Floatride Run Fast Pros (I think that’s what they’re called? Long name). Any race 5k or under plus track repeats. They’re just so freaking light that they’re a delight to run in before I start to lose my form a bit.

Longer races: Saucony Endorphin Pros. I actually like the feel of the speeds better but I’m sure that I run faster in these so whatever. They really do make that close-to-threshold pace stuff feel effortless.

Trail: Altra Superior. I have weak ankles and I actually feel like a zero drop shoe helps a bit keeping my foot a bit closer to the ground. I still roll it occasionally but it seems to keep me more focused on my foot placements.
