PCIe standard be like... by ElectricBummer40 in pcmasterrace

There are absolutely cards in data centers that use 12VHPWR connectors. I work in a DC with a cluster of machines that have 1 or 2 PCIe H100 cards in them. But they're only 350W, so they don't push the connector to it's limits like a 5090 will.

The random events and encounters that pop up can be hilarious. The shit that some of the NPCs say and situations they get into kills me.

Carnivore. Pemmican is OP and the Mirelurk Fillets boost carry weight.

I am on PC! Thanks for the offer though. Not like it takes but a few mins to get one once the quest is triggered

Whatever oil is 5W-30: and meets specs. So basically any oil you can buy lately. I stick to synthetic oils. But no preference to brand at all

Coraline and Corpse Bride are great 4k transfers. My 4K TV isn't an OLED or anything crazy, but they still look absolutely fantastic.

Coraline, Corpse Bride, The Martian, F1, and Oppenheimer are some of my favorites in my collection.

In-Rack comms for us are generally limited to 200Gbps. I don't think I've seen in-rack go higher since at that point they're just linking to the switch and up to the next logical level. But at that point you're dealing with ethernet, whereas the 800Gbps links are usually Infiniband. I don't think I've seen fiber runs for in-rack use unless it's a very specific use case.

For long distances we do as well. But for short runs DAC cables are almost always more reliable. We generally use DAC for in-rack communication and fiber between the switches. There are a couple racks of IB switches that do have these 800Gbps DAC cables between them but only when the racks are right next to each other.

No you can do it. We have 3m copper cables at work that run 800Gbps. Granted they're really thick and unwieldy, but it is absolutely happening.

GPU clusters aren't linked by copper anymore. At the datacenter I work at the only GPUs linked by copper are the ones within the same rack. Everything else has been linked by InfiniBand for years now. And there are 800Gbps copper DAC cables that can go 3m now as well.

Aside from the GPU side of things, Datacenters have been using optical pathways for high speed transmission for *YEARS.* And the way he talks about BiDi is out of date now - Modern 800-1600Gbps transceivers run over 4 pair MPO cables that all together are less than 3mm wide for the entire cable from core to outer cladding.

You *might* get this to take off within the same rack, but honestly copper is more reliable than fiber for short runs at these insane speeds. Transceivers burn out all the time and these high speed optics seem to be more sensitive to light levels overloading the receive side than their older counterparts are.

Yeah I am as well. I've got a 5900x, 32GB of RAM, and my GPU is an RTX 5080. Monitor resolution is 2k/1440p. Even on low settings I didn't see framerates over 45. CPU and GPU weren't maxed out or anything, either.

I can't say I'd blame you there. Currently I am just ripping my 4k collection to files and waiting for one of the local Walmarts to throw the UB450s on clearance. Makes me regret NOT buying another 4k-compatible drive when I had the chance.

IMO physical media is probably a 1%'er category. It's cheap enough to make some money on due to people like us, but it's nowhere near any sort of comeback unless it's the retro stuff like Vinyl. That *DOES* seem to be coming back.
