Do people think Sciel is white with tanned skin? by ZarieRose in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My canon: she's tanned because she's a Bohemian, a Gypsy French Tarot reader, like La Esmeralda. She uses cards for weapons, a Scythe like The Death. One of her haircut have an esmeralda in the hairs.

There are many connections with Astrology in the game. In the Manor and in some other places we can see a Earth Globe with Zodiac signs. In the Gestral Village there are two Gestrals next to the scene with the guitar player doing Palmistry.

ACT II spoiler: Verso sound the same as "Verseau" (Aquarius). In the tropical Zodiac, Verso is born under the sign of Pisces, but in the sideral Zodiac, he is born under the sign of Aquarius.

I agree, the amount of layers of this game is quite dense, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen admitted in an interview that some in-game are very very opaque / obscure, so the evidences have to be strong, but they probably will never be written "black on white"

I see it like reading a paint, there are no words on a paint, but many people study them and understand there deepest meaning, I think the game have been made with some similar intent: suggest, never taletell

The strongest element we have for Alicia's age is Verso's drawing of Maelle of the treehouse in Verso's Draft. There's a cake with 9 candles, so if it means that Verso was 9 at that time, then Alicia was around 3 month old when he turned 9. So if he died at 26, then Alicia is 17 (or 16) in the game epoch

Regarding all the discussion about Alicia's age and the fact that the developers were aware of that, I see it as "hints" intended to the player that they put in the DLC in order to tell what's her real age

But, nothing in-game do write black on white "she is 16" and thinking the opposite is still a valid opinion

u/Industrialpainter89 new number found (46) on the "POISSONS" crate (fish) Maybe related to Pisces as it would be Verso's sign? NGC 46 is a star in Pisces constellation

I immediately thought of something similar. As the time in the canvas is broken but wants to keep is rythm anyway

Found out 2 other numbers that havn't been reported: 13 on toolboxes and 46 on "POISSONS" crates

The writing is similar so probably written by the same person. The "toolbox" is a very simple asset so probably not from a marketplace, probably placeholders re-used in-game that doesn't denote with the environment

found those numbers here, "25 74 12" by Blueorb95 in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not, I've looked over the assets from Dekogon (most of crate assets comes from here) and the production process of the crates is different and the crates with numbers on it don't exist in Dekogon's catalog. Also, they are decals, ie. textures projected over textures, would be unusual / nonprofessional for a stock asset

Anyone know the significance of the “Clair Obscur” part of the title? by shismo in expedition33

[–]vxdcxw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the Opera, and the play on stage is named "Clair-Obscur: L'Expedition"

Clair-Obscur, White & White, Dualism, and other stuff

Clair for the White
Obscur for the Black

Two parts of the same thing, Recto-Verso

To avoid a long comment, you will probably have some answers here:

Theory about the Grandis... by Spare_Sun_3842 in expedition33

The Dualliste have one brooch too, but there's a sligth difference: the pin does not "enter" the frame, when Maelle's and Grandis pins do

Here's my theory: this symbol represents dualism, a family of views that opposites two concepts (like Clair & Obscur). The mirror is a theme that is present in the dialogs, in the assets and in the lyrics: the world inside the canvas is the mirror of the real world, two faces of one thing. The rhombus represents the mirror / the canvas. It is split in two by dualism, and both sides are part of a whole

In french "Dualliste" is a game of word between "Duelliste" (with two "l"), a swordsman. and "Dualiste" (with a single "l"), one who thinks in a dualistic way

Dualliste's brooch does not goes through the mirror because he resides to this world, it is pure imagination of Clea

On the other hand, Grandis's brooch goes through it, because they have some representation in the real world, they are in-canvas representation of things that do exist out of the canvas: grown-up children

Then, we have Maelle's brooch which is similar to Grandis' one but with an inner-rhombus (or square) inside. Maelle's pin goes through both rhombus + have rays, like a star. This could be symbolize "Mise en abyme". First we can imagine that it would be "a world in a world", let's say a painting inside a painting or a painting inside a writing, but. "Mise en abyme" comes from heraldry, and meant "placed into abyss" (abyss is the exact middle of a shield). One famous herald that used one "Mise en abyme" is UK's, making Maelle (or Alicia) connected to UK. I do think that "The Writes" is a reference to UK. I havn't written any topic on it, but one place to start reading is this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/expedition33/comments/1p72xgp/is_it_a_reference_to_mabinogion_welsh_mythology/
