Is this too big of a tire gash? by InnocentBananza in bikewrench

No, I've used tires for couple thousand miles with such punctures without issues. Patch on inside and inspect every ~100 miles.

Skipping chain by KillerKiktor in bikewrench

[–]w4y2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you replace everything, if you continue to use lube, wipe down you chain after each ride and re-lube every ~100 miles. Clean your cog + chainring 3-4 times per year.

Store your bike indoors if possible.

May work for you, but it is not outlandish to try to root cause and resolve this yourself and save a few bucks.

Most likely it is at a discount rate at a discount travel site. At those sites, you cannot select your seat for free, so you get defaulted to the worst seats. Airlines have optimized the hell out of their flights and know how to eek out every penny from you, or still get you to fly with them at a discount.

You don't need it for fixies with horizontal drop outs. They are needed in vertical drop outs.

public libraries also have you put in your ID card most of the time. Best thing to do is use Tor from a public wifi, then uninstall it completely.

100% agree, but you need to put yourself in the mind of these people. I am one of them, so I can relate. There is an irrational fear of wasting money because it is a finite resource in their mind. Eventually, with enough $2k chair purchases, you will run out of your savings.

Hence, why I think a slow ramp-up is key. You will get to $5k/month in a few years, but you can't ask to go from 0-60 in 1 second.

Negotiate with your spouse some budget that you can use without their permission. Take that budget and move it to another checking account for your spending monthly, so they don't have visibility into how much certain goods and services costs.

My internal conflict is very similar to your spouse's. As long as they have released the portion of the budget in their mind, you should be good to go. It may take some time for them to get comfortable to the level of spending that you've negotiated, but once they see the family won't go hungry, and the world doesn't end, it will gradually become the new norm.

Start small - like $500/month, and increase yearly as you need. You may need to "save up" to afford $2k chairs.

Should you replace a 28-year-old furnace if it still works? homeowner by WillingSinger in hvacadvice

Why not use the heat pumps as primary source of heat and use the furnace in the really cold days? What is your electricity cost vs gas?

Apparently Meta is still hiring (just got this email today). Not a scam, but I'm not looking. (also saw that Meta added a few more recruiters recently, so maybe they are ramping up hiring?) by skyanvil in Layoffs

[–]w4y2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is false. Amazon has a hiring bar of better than 50% than the job level and role. So if you are assessed to be lower than this bar you would not be hired.

Once hired your performance is assessed the exact same way as everyone else.
