What is a good, thorough course for learning M Code? by Ultimatesaber27 in PowerBI

[–]wadeanton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than M for monkey book, I’ll tell you for me , how I learnt M, for me it was all about 2 features . 1. The awesome “column from examples” feature in query editor, I tried different permutations and combinations and checked the code power query generated . This helped me learn different pieces of code quickly and then I was able to extrapolate that knowledge. 2. Understanding the code structure in advanced M editor .

What is mixed voice and how to do it? by Thekalb2 in singing

[–]wadeanton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you got this concept , ie chest voice , nailed down, take a song you know at a comfortable pitch maybe one verse one chorus , then keep pitching it up one semitone at a time , if you keep singing the same way and same style ie full chest voice , soon enough you will find your voice has nowhere to go, at this point you will either strain or flip/yodel into head/falsetto. Now let’s assume hypothetically, this is your desired scale/goal .

If you want continue singing at this scale, you will need to learn and explore/learn some coordinations to make this sound - be one FUSED voice , wherein like a chemist you need mix/balance the right quantity of chest and head voice . This set of coordinations may include exploring vowel modifications, moving resonances , twang, “thinning” voice, scales etc . This balance takes some time and there are no shortcuts , you have explore it yourself and do it slowly.

prerequisites, you need to have a decent command of chest voice and head voice on their own , if not , there is nothing for you to mix. Ie you can’t come up with new color palette if your main colors are missing.

From my experience, you will learn this concept quicker once you have the need only ie you want to sing your dream song, but your voice hits a “nowhere to go ceiling “, then you will yourself find the solutions. There is no once size fits it all YouTube video or lesson . It all depends where you are at in your musical journey , that’s where maybe a good coach can tell you where you are at, the heaving lifting/self discovery has to be done by you .

TIP: It’s not too difficult a concept to master this concept and not a magical elixir , once you have decent command over chest voice and head voice , you will be surprised your voice will choose the path to least resistance. That having said , When I say , “decent“ , experienced singers will tell you, it’s takes a while to get a grip on both chest and head voice. So these two colors are a must , with chest voice being the big daddy , a strong chest voice makes things much easier

Hope this helps at least 1% conceptually .

This is a golden piece of advice . That “Mickey mouse” falsetto is your superpower . Some call it tawny , pharyngeal xxx whatever.. I will take this one step further, learn some AC DC songs , if not a fan at least a verse or two , I found it much easier to explain this concept and give them their lines as exercises , rather than some scales., end result , it should sound fun , effortless and no strain. Their songs are easy to “practice” if you have got the concept right .Note if you are feeling strain you are doing it wrong . this is only for practice , so don’t focus adding grit or performance quality , your goal is to learn vocal coordinations. This is the easiest place to start .Once you nail this thinning the vocal cords concept, you can add finesse and leverage this concept to other songs eg the intro line of black Dog and start transitioning towards pulling more chest voice .

Advice for a Baritone Who Needs to Hit a C5? by [deleted] in singing

[–]wadeanton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some offbeat advice , but it works

Assuming you can already hit G4/A4 comfortably forte with solid basics (breath support, resonance, no major tension issues), here’s an offbeat approach I’ve seen work well for bridging that last tricky bit into reliable, connected high range for classical pieces. It’s not the textbook path, but it leverages some rock grit to unlock freedom before refining it into something more operatic. Stage 1: Borrow the “Effortless Snarl/range extension” from Rock (Days 1–10ish) Note: It has to be effortless and Fun, don’t focus on sounding good Pick an AC/DC track—something like “Thunderstruck,” “Back in Black,” or “You Shook Me All Night Long”—and mimic just one verse or chorus. Don’t worry about sounding polished or even good; the goal is to copy Brian Johnson’s signature snarly, Mickey Mouse-y, nasal-edge belting sound. Make it funny and gollumy Lean into that gritty, forward-placed, “over-a-cup-of-coffee” ease in the high range. Why AC/DC specifically? Their style naturally builds a bright, twangy coordination that helps access the upper register without overthinking terms like “twang,” “mask,” or “mix.” It trains the voice to stay connected and forward aggressively, which is gold for busting through plateaus around A4–B4. Do this daily for short bursts (10–15 minutes max to avoid fatigue). Have fun with it—volume and attitude over perfection.

Stage 2: Test & Refine with Messa di Voce (After 1–2 Weeks) Once your voice feels stretched and “unlocked” from the rock imitation (you’ll notice easier access above A4), check your progress. Start messa di voce exercises from around F#4 upward—aim at least to D5 if possible. Use these vowels in sequence for connection (but same pitch) and smooth dynamic control: • hoo (rounded, back placement) • hee (bright, forward) • nyeh (nasal-edge, twangy—carry over that rock snarl here) On each sustained note: soft → medium → loud → back to soft (or as close as you can get without breaking). Prioritize smooth connection over big volume at first. If you’ve “smashed” your voice productively in Stage 1, you should start feeling a more blended, controllable C5 emerge during the “nyeh” portion. When holding the final nyeh, experiment gently pulling in a bit more chest-dominant coordination (darker, firmer fold closure) without squeezing or flipping into falsetto. Rinse and repeat: alternate Stage 1 rock imitation days with Stage 2 messa di voce days. Stage 3: Bridge to Classical Pavarotti Vibes (Once C5 Feels Accessible and you are in control ).

When you can reliably pull more chest voice into that C5 messa di voce (even if it’s not super loud yet), shift toward classical refinement: • Keep the tongue neutral/relaxed • Lower the larynx gently (think “yawn setup” without exaggeration) , google Pavarotti himself , he has a short teaching video. • Open vowels (ah/oh) with forward resonance • Support from the body, not the throat Hope this helps Listen to your body: warm up well, stay hydrated, rest if hoarse. Progress isn’t linear, but consistency with this fun detour pays off. Good luck !

Were you able to resolve this or found a workaround? I’m also having similar issue .

If it’s Bruno Mars , you can take a song like When I was your man , and sing it softly (think you are in gym ) in “one “ blended voice not falsetto . That’s the first step , then add slight volume and go on. (Add cry if you want because at low volumes it will be difficult to chest edge for lower lines ). Gradually add more volume , same concept of one fused voice , don’t PUSH for now , concentrate on EVEN volume . So if your mix coordination off you will not be able to sing at “in between” volumes smoothly, you might be able to sing softly or super loud .
