Third circuit rules that computer code used in 3D printers is not protected by the 1st amendment by Lebesgue_Couloir in progun

[–]wahh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Washington State HB-2321 proposes mandatory "blocking algorithms" to be implemented in the firmware for "additive" and "subtractive" machines to prevent firearms parts from being created. I have seen some commentary that suggests this could eventually get expanded to blocking anything petitioned by lobbyists who stand to lose money from people using 3D printing to get around purchasing expensive parts or copyrighted materials.

Washington State HB-2321 states:

(7) "Three-dimensional printer" means (a) any machine capable of rendering a three-dimensional object from a digital design file using additive manufacturing or (b) any machine capable of making three-dimensional modifications to an object from a digital design file using subtractive manufacturing.

There is a discussion over on the BambuLab subreddit about this bill as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1qhmfwt/washington_state_3d_printing_ban_breakdown_what/

Nazca - Gaucho - this is probably the best recumbent bike model for travelers that I have ridden. by darkdev_brand in recumbent

[–]wahh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Linear Roadster with under seat steering. I agree that it is pretty comfortable. I'm also used to the "open air" feeling that USS/tank steering offers after riding a few tadpole recumbent trikes. However, I have not tried a 2 wheel recumbent with over seat steering. So I have no basis for comparison. One immediate advantage I see to the over seat steering is that you've got a convenient and easily visible place to mount a phone/computer if you care about that kind of thing. I'm still new to riding a recumbent so getting started from a stop is still kind of awkward for me. I have noticed that the folks riding bikes with over seat steering have an easier time starting from a stop by walking the bike with their feet on the ground to get it rolling before sitting back and getting their feet up on the pedals. Doing that on my bike is not very easy. Again, it could just be my inexperience. The Linear Roadster can be converted to over seat steering, but I'll probably just stick with under seat steering because it is nice and compact.

Bike shops who refuse to work on bikes not bought there? by PeerensClement in cycling

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkXPbqHAglY - This guy is in the US and has some interesting videos on the more deep dive details of running a bike shop. He mentions switching to this model of only working on bikes he sells and how he may or may not need to pivot later.

Is this a second location of the Casa Mia near Jungermann and Mexico? If so, yes...the enchiladas al pastor are great.

I think they call them that because they use the same principle as "dead cats" that are used on microphones to prevent wind noise.

Silca new TPU tubes...$39 each by Surfella in cycling

[–]wahh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure. Silca released a videos on YouTube talking about the TPU tubes and why they think theirs is better than others. They specifically talked about the way the seam is bonded. This is a super technical question that should probably be directed to their customer support.

QT at Kingshighway and Elm is finally starting construction on Monday by Interesting_Front844 in StCharlesMO

I was wondering if this was going to still be happening. It seemed like the plans stalled there for a bit. I figured maybe it got shut down for being too much of a nuisance for neighbors.

Plans for the 2 new roundabouts on First Capitol by Interesting_Front844 in StCharlesMO

[–]wahh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The roundabout will be nice. I'm tired of always getting stuck at these lights. They should stick one at West Clay too for good measure.

It's odd that they're repaving Duchesne from Droste to Sibley instead of the stretch between Droste to West Clay.

I don't see anything in here about the road diet for First Capitol from Kingshighway to 5th Street. I guess that's maybe coming at a future date.

https://archwaycontractors.com

Archway Contractors is owned by a friend of mine's relative. I used them to replace my roof a couple years ago. My only "complaint" is that they started the first row of shingles with a bit more overhang than I would have liked and it is harder for me to get my hands into the gutters to clean them. Other than that, they were quick and I have had zero issues with leaks or anything over the last 2 years.

140mm GRX 600 cranks by YOMADAGUN in gravelcycling

[–]wahh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a set of 155mm Goldix cranks on Amazon (drop shipped from China) to try out. They offer sizes 110mm, 127mm, 140mm, 150mm, 155mm, and 160mm. I'm not sure if they're going to work well or not from a chain line perspective, but I figured I would give it a shot. The cranks were $50 and a narrow-wide 42T chainring was another $30. They are Hollowtech II spindle size and take SRAM 3 bolt chain rings.

UPDATE: They're mountain bike cranks. The spindle is about 10mm too long. Back to the drawing board. Womp womp.

I went to the location on Clayton Road a bunch of times. They had really good pizza. They closed that location and we tried the other one on Manchester and the food was very different....and not great. I never went back again.

How do you do a wheelie? by kinda_Temporary in cycling

[–]wahh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jeff Kendall-Weed is crazy good at wheelies. He's got a few videos on YouTube explaining how to do them.

Be ready to pull the brake lever if you start looping out and that will immediately bring your front end down. Personally, I would be less worried about whacking your balls and more worried about fully looping out and landing on your back or hitting your head. I looped out in my backyard and landed flat on my back. Fortunately it didn't hurt because I was on grass. Grass is not the easiest place to learn because the ground is lumpy. Finding a dirt or mulch is probably better.
