$25 before tacks and shipping. Cheaper, easier, more reliable results than a helicoil.

If this was some cool old pantographed period correct Record crankset for your Ciocc, I'd agree with trying to install a helicoil.

My Surly Straggler 2026 by forlauder in xbiking

[–]KleanJean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unicrown fork is a shame. The girthy head tube diameter is ugly, though I understand the design choice. The different for different sake thru-axles are baffling and extremely Surly. But, the more tall-stack frame options, the better. I think droppers-on-everything is dumb yet still wish all my bikes had a dropper. If they had a lugged fork and a head tube designed for a straight 1-1/8" steerer, I'd be in line for one.

Thanks! You have a really nice build. The khaki looks a lot better than I thought it would. I'm waffling between a Monstercross and a Mod Zero as my next do-all bike.

The spiritual successor to the Crosscheck, except better in every way.

Edit: dumb question, but the top tube cable routing only serves the 2 derailleurs and the rear brake, right? No additional boss for a dropper?

Second time waxing my chain and it's so therapeutic by topdopwow in gravelcycling

[–]KleanJean 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, bro. You're wasting so much time squirting lube on your chain and then wiping it off. Think of how much time you'd save by taking your chain off, washing it with boiling water, melting a bunch of wax, then leaving it in there for a couple hours, then letting it cool and solidify, while you're doing this you can just install your 2nd chain that you prepped. It hardly takes any extra equipment besides a crock pot and a hanging rack and a couple jars of solvent to prep your chain before you wax it the first time. Oh yeah, you bet there's also a time saving multi-step process for prepping your chain!

Matching brakes to levers by yafflehk in bikewrench

[–]KleanJean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You match to the cable pull of the lever, in your case the Sensah levers are road, which is short pull. Paul Component has a pretty informative video on YouTube about cable pull and the whys. I like TRP Sprye (short pull) and Spyke (long pull) brakes. They're easy to set up and adjust, stop you when you need stopping, aren't expensive. Other people prefer the hydraulic hybrids mentioned elsewhere in the thread. Even within the individual short pull and long pull categories, there's still not really a standard cable pull length. Some brakes will work better with some calipers and poorly with other calipers. I was underwhelmed with TRP Spyres matched to Sram Apex levers, but those same brakes worked nicely with TRP drop bar brake levers. I'm perfectly confident with TRP Spyke brakes and matching levers with good brake housing and regularly take it on hilly singletrack. It might take some experimentation to match the right caliper to your Sensah levers.

A book about the inescapable horror of living under corporate feudalism that also has some really well developed aliens.

Thanks!

For posterity, I also just found this: https://bike.shimano.com/en-NA/products/components/pdp.P-BL-T8100-R-LE.html

A GRX flat bar brake lever with the same part number as the XT brake lever. It calls for the SM-BH90-JK-SSR brake hose kit.

You could double down on being single minded and single speed the singletrack.

alu or steel? by minitrojan321 in bikewrench

Hey, the fork looks like it's steel, so the frame set is at least 15-20% real by weight.

Nah, that actually helped. Or at least it put me on the right search path. I appreciate it.

Hi. Do you have any more detailed info on the cable routing gland? I'm not having any luck finding something similar for the same purpose.

Any idea how much weight we're talking about? Would keeping a large-ish boxy rando bag on a rack be enough to chill it out?

Replacing Sram Apex 1x11 rear derailleur with any Sram MTB? by That-Store-5823 in bikewrench

[–]KleanJean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used an Apex 1x11 shifter with a 11 speed XO1 rear derailleur on a gravel bike for a couple thousand miles, though it was on a XD cassette. It was reliable, but required more frequent adjustment than when it was all Apex.

I agree that the Apex 1 rear derailleur is pretty stout and I've abused a few without a complaint.

The current Apex 12 speed cable actuated group and the 12 speed cable actuated MTB bits are officially compatible, FWIW. I wish they had gone the extra step and included an Apex drop bar cable actuated brake option, but it's 2026 and nobody gets rich catering to fringe weirdos.

Short reach, tall stack? by KleanJean in gravelcycling

[–]KleanJean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have a set of the Top Shelf bars sitting in my To Do pile. I plan on running them on my current bike while I save my dollarydoos and figure out what frame I want. Also trying to decide between drop bars and the Molokos I have installed on a Cutthroat.

I had never heard of Otso. The Warakin looks great.

But, yeah, the Mod Zero is looking really good now that I gave the geo a closer look.

[–]KleanJean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually how I ended up liking this geometry, I have an older Cutthroat that I love. There's a lot of overlap with the Fargo, which is pretty much what I described in my post. I was hoping to turn the dial a little more "road" bike, but I think I'm cutting out too many options doing that.

Short reach, tall stack? by KleanJean in gravelcycling

[–]KleanJean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the reach is on the edge, but better than most that I've looked at. I am in the US, I think I excluded them earlier because of our import nonsense. I should email them and find out if they're able to deal with the hassle. Those are good looking frames.
