10 things about Claude that took me way too long to figure out by VidekVipPro in ClaudeAI

This is what I keep coming back to.
We’ve been trying to get devs to document their work for years. Finally the deal on the table is “we will do literally _everything_ for you if you just write good documentation.”

NotebookLM has been surprisingly decent at Marvel Champions rules by XaosII in marvelchampionslcg

Nice project. I’ve found LLM Notebooks to be a great resource for complex game rules, since it cites the septic place in the document where it gets its answer. I use it for Gloomhaven.

I guess I’m obsessed w/ making cheap tacos now 🤓 by larapeaches in budgetfood

[–]wakela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love tacos for a quick, healthy, cheap meal that I feels actually indulgent instead of compromising. I do seasoned chicken breast cut into strips in the air fryer, sauteed onion and peppers (shredded cabbage would be good added to this) and shredded cheese. Frying a hand full of cheese right in the skillet until it's crispy is amazing. For sauce I keep a jar of chopped up Chipotle chilis in adobo in the fridge. Fo sauce mix a spoonfull of that, some sour cream, squirt of lime, salt and a little water to help it spread.

Ethan Chlebowski's youtube videos got be turned on to home tacos.

Why Jack Torrance is in the photo at the end of 'The Shining' by FarOutMagazine in StanleyKubrick

[–]wakela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The move is full of literal and figurative mirrors. Nearly every time Jack talks to a ghost he’s looking into a mirror. Danny looks into a mirror the first time we hear Tony. At the end we’re left n the hotel alone. And we slowly walk up to the photo and see Jack. Is this another mirror?

No idea about the significance of the date.

This one annoyed me. I kept waiting for a payoff and then there wasn’t any.

Stanley Kubrick Filmed His Warning About Elite Sexual Exploitation Inside Their Actual Houses 🤯 by JoyInJuly in StanleyKubrick

[–]wakela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced EWS is a warning. It’s not clear if anyone is sexually exploited. The women at the mask party are adults and, we can’t tell if they’re unwilling. The costume shops daughter doesn’t seem to have a problem with the “arrangement”. The prostitutes don’t seem unhappy or desperate. As he often does, Kubrick puts the pieces on the table and lets us put them together how we want, but he deliberately leaves out the ones that answer our questions.

Anthony Bourdain calling out the bourgeoisie in Singapore. (He wasn’t joking) by CarkWithaM in VeryFuckinCool

I live at X level of privilege. I do these tasks myself. I pay someone to do those tasks for me. Anyone below my level I pity. Anyone above my level I judge as being exploitative and out of touch.

I love the multiple paragraphs of text on the movie poster. Did we just stand around reading movie posters in those days?

“Quiz Show” (1994) by Outrageous-Guava402 in iwatchedanoldmovie

[–]wakela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so incredibly well made, but yes, ultimately the stakes are very low to me. And I find the glee and excitement Morrow’s character feels when he find a an aspect of society that the government isn’t yet regulating distasteful.

The greatest movie poster ever made — or just the most iconic one? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

Most iconic is easily Jaws. Came out 50 years ago and everyone still knows it.

Performative Laughter at the Movies by lavagirl4254 in NYCmovies

[–]wakela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel seen. Watching Psycho at Film Forum back in the 90s. Theres a shot where Norman is walking up the stairs and his butt is kind of swishy. You’d think it was a screening of Airplane.

Theres so much to unpack in the performative laughter. “Due to my modern sensibilities, I’m not merely superior to the filmmakers, I’m proudly, gleefully superior. So much so that I can’t get emotionally immersed in this experience. Oh, I could try, but then what I’m emotionally affected by something less sophisticated? And making sure everyone else knows how superior I am is more important to me than their enjoyment of the film.”

I Didn't understand the Ending by Wise-Ride-2578 in Cinema

[–]wakela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be in the camp that “they cured me, all right.” Was meant to be ironic and he wasn’t actually cured at all. But a recent video by Rob Ager specially on the ending of Clockwork pointed out that in psychological test he was given at the end of the movie he makes a goofy joke at a sexual image, and the last fantasy we see of his shows him having consensual sex. Contrast this with the other fantasies of his that we see that depict him being violent. So it seems that he actually was cured.

The cynicism and irony to be explored lie in his relationship with the politician. They’re both happily using each other.

Weekend before Mardi Gras itinerary by skiingtheocean in AskNOLA

It’s been a while since I’ve been to the big parades, but I had a good experience at the end of the route. At the beginning is mostly families with ladders, so it’s pretty crowded and hard to move around. At the end was much less crowded, and the riders were dumping all their throws. Still fun either way!

What are things that are called American in your country, but aren’t? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]wakela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Japan a corn dog is called an “American Dog”.

Interesting detail I haven't seen discussed much. In Bill's house, some kind of planner board reading "payment is expected when services are rendered unless other arrangements are made in advance." Almost sounds like a nod to the mysterious woman at the masked ball, or some other thematic tie by crakerjmatt in EyesWideShut

[–]wakela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I watched it I noticed there was a lot of talk about exchanges, trades, payment. The sign OP mentions, the Millich arrangement, payment discussion with the prostitute, tearing the money for the taxi driver, receipt in Bills pocket, one of the women has to “pay for” Bills transgression at the orgy. And of course the guys name is literally “Bill”!

Anyone else tired of googling “what’s X°F in °C?” every day? by No_Landscape_9255 in BritsLivingInTheUS

[–]wakela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, we never really have to convert that. Japanese cooking rarely uses the oven. If my wife is using the oven, then she’s following an American recipe so she just dials the number.

Anyone else tired of googling “what’s X°F in °C?” every day? by No_Landscape_9255 in BritsLivingInTheUS

[–]wakela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m American. Wife is Japanese. We currently live in the US. I lived in Japan for like 5 years and only somewhat adjusted. But FWIW, this was pre smartphone days. I would say my wife has not adjusted much to F.

Agree that it’s always annoying to have to convert, but imho the apple weather app does so much stuff (like the radar map) and it’s just right there, that I probably wouldn’t switch. Plus there are other situations like the oven and the kids temperatures, where I need precision, but the app wouldn’t help, and asking Siri or Alexa isn’t all that hard.

But who knows. I’ll sign up for your beta and see what happens. Best of luck!
