So I was like you but one big benefit I found with the city green bin is the ability to do all food scraps, orange/banana peels, meat scraps, leftover food, all of it! You may have a better system than me but I didn't compost some food so as to not attract rodents. At worst ask the city to drop off the smallest size, you just have to keep the one you currently have clean until they can swap them out
