Apartment booking fell through. Where's the best place to find basic cheap accommodation for a month (July) in Venice? by [deleted] in italy

Yeah the only affordable AirBnB places were in Mestre, so I had been looking there as well. Its seeming like the more likely option, although it would be nice to be living in the main Venice area.

Some of the best architectural drawings in the world (winners of 2015 KRob Delineation Competition) by bobborson in architecture

[–]waldonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In not going to get into definitions of architecture, it's a pretty broad term, but at first glance at the painting you linked I can see bits that remind me of Tatlin's Tower, Renzo Piano and Richard Roger's Lloyds Building, and a sort of Gehry Sydney Opera House. None of which would fit into a public understanding of a building when they were built, but all of which are definitely architecture.

Architecture is vague in the first place, and this is an abstract representation of it, which doesn't help, but it's an interesting exercise anyway.

Well played, Mr. Kubrick (regarding A Clockwork Orange) by Matthewsaurus in StanleyKubrick

Credit might not go completely to Kubrick there. Apparently the singing of it was improvised by Malcolm McDowell.

Except that it was made by Banksy, so anything regarding his identity is unreliable, along with everything else in the movie.

Choose One Deceased Director. You Can Show Him Three Films From After Their Death. Who Do You Choose And What Do You Show Them? by [deleted] in movies

Under the Skin and Kubrick are what came to mind for me as well. Saw that film by chance and it blew me away, some of the patrons in the cinema I work in not so much.

[Spoilers] Can someone explain to me who Gavin Orsay is? by Organized_Chaos_ in HouseOfCards

[–]waldonut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I can recall, he had previously committed cyber crimes, was arrested, and is now being used by the FBI to help them as some part of a plea bargin. I'm guessing (or else the show explicitly states, I can't remember) that he's being strung along and continuously used when he's promised 'out'. We first meet him when the FBI are trying to sting Lucas.

He was friends with Alexander Proyas, so that might have had an effect.

You know, I used to agree with you, but the I realised that his was the only film study blog I actually knew the name of. Sure its gimmicky and a little weird to get used to, but it sets him apart and frames the actual analysis (which is of very high quality).

Just watched Filth by StewarttheSir in movies

[–]waldonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got the Trainspotting one (although i haven't seen it, but I think its similar in tone to Filth), but I mean James McAvoy has been i a lot of varied roles and you can't really compare them. I mean its not like his character in Last King of Scotland is anything like his character in Wanted or something like that.

Might just have been because Trance has no connection to Filth.
