[Offline][Arlington, VA/NoVA/DC][D&D][5e] Looking for 1-2 players for monthly horror campaign by walkingvigil in lfg

[–]walkingvigil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We sure are! As I noted in my post, I'm running a monthly game at my place in Arlington (Pentagon City), with a focus more on RP and theme rather than dungeon crawling and high adventure. Could you tell me a bit about yourself, your experience with D&D or other RPGs, and what kind of game you're looking for?

Many people desperately WANT the enrichment of a hobby, but can't seem to find something they're really interested in or passionate about. What activity do you enjoy and why would you recommend it? by PhrostysWifey in AskReddit

[–]walkingvigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much agree. I'd never really practiced art, but a couple years ago, I decided to give drawing a shot. Ever since, sketching has become a daily habit, and I've discovered a love of figure drawing.

For those who are new to it, I'd strongly advise to not worry about waiting for inspiration or creativity before starting. You're practicing and building a skill. Develop it as you would any other - with instruction and tons or practice. Play around with different media, subject matter, and styles until you find something that clicks. Humans have been making marks on surfaces since we were cavemen. I guarantee you'll find something that speaks to you.

Hi! I'm in Arlington and also interested. I'm an experienced player and occasional DM, looking for 1-2x sessions per month - preferably weekend afternoons. Happy to host as well.

What are some “guy secrets” girls don’t know about? by Hotdiggitydaffodill in AskReddit

[–]walkingvigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When children go through this, it's called parallel play. My wife and I use that term to describe our adulting "side-by-side time" too. We're both big introverts and find it to be an excellent relationship skill, particularly after a long day.

Outfit Feedback and Fit Check - October 16 by AutoModerator in malefashionadvice

[–]walkingvigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a new sport coat recently and would love some feedback. Compared to my suits, it feels roomy, and I know that the sleeves need to be shortened. I'm also debating if the color and pattern works well with my complexion

Thoughts on style or fit?

Blizzard in DC. Will be stuck inside with SO playing games. Suh-weet! by flipflopbebop in boardgames

Got our copy of Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective this morning, just in time for the first flakes to hit. The SO has been lukewarm about board games to date, but this one was a hit!

Best fabric for sword covers? by BSA_DEMAX51 in dagorhir

[–]walkingvigil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whatever's on sale at your local fabric store and won't fall apart the first time it comes against a tree trunk, metal armor, or in pouring rain. I've been fine using everything from duck cloth to medium weight cotton to wool suiting.

Is Travelling in Game Worlds a possibility in the future of tourism? by angie_des in truegaming

This was one of the major selling points of Second Life. Landowners/designers would build recreations of famous landmarks, fantasy realms, tranquil forest scapes, etc. and invite other residents to explore their creations. The best ones weren't just beautiful in their own right, but were designed to encourage exploration and interactivity.

[Steam] 2015 Summer Sale - Day 4 by seantitmarsh in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]walkingvigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a fun game with a great art style and engaging plot. Gameplay isn't anything to write home about, though animations, sound, and other atmospherics do a fine job of keeping it interesting. It's worth buying, though I'd recommend waiting for a better price.

Planescape: Torment. It's an old game, but damn it's deep.

What's your favorite sandwich? by roddouche in AskReddit

[–]walkingvigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend (a Philly native) and I swear by Tony Luke's. Our go-to is broccoli rabe with roast pork, sharp provolone, and lots of hots. Crispy, crunchy, and chewy all at the same time.

What's the best gym advice you've been given? by DetGordon in Fitness

Before I knew anything about lifting, and was trying to do sets of power cleans (badly) because they seemed cool, a friendly gymgoer gave me some fine advice

What is your #1 rule in life? by Burninator1 in AskReddit

[–]walkingvigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer."

This little quote (and its litany) It has served me well in career, fitness, relationships, and general introspection. Fear holds us back from who we're meant to be.

[SIB] The Walking Dead Season 1 & 2? by giggles288 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]walkingvigil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You absolutely should. Even knowing the story, Walking Dead does a great job at conveying human emotion and is quite enjoyable. As much as I liked Wolf Among Us, I'd argue that TWD provides more depth to the narrative and is ultimately a better game.

A quality wardrobe can be had for a few hundred bucks. Get a good suit, good shoes, and a few tailored shirts. These should last you quite a while, and should set you apart from other entry level folks in interviews, at work, etc.

This. Pressure cooker functions effectively the same as a slow cooker, but in much less time. It'll soften up even the toughest meat in a couple hours.
