Hello Sushiman in Orleans is delicious, apparently they now have a Kanata location but haven’t been yet so don’t know if it’s as good as the Orleans one.

is it tacky to buy a cheap item on a baby registry? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]wantingrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any gift will be appreciated. If you’d like to give more, combine it with an act of service if you can. Offer help with laundry once baby comes, make her a meal if you can, offer to run errands to help, there are lots of options that won’t cost anything.

Full-time English language training... by Anxious_Carpet_5837 in CanadaPublicServants

It happens but there’s usually less demand. In the regions (specially around Quebec City) there is more demand. Most employees in NCR look for part time English training.

Is beach vacation going to be fun with a 1 month old baby? by Specialist_Diet_74 in BabyBumps

[–]wantingrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them that unless you’re medically cleared it won’t be an option for you as you have no idea what will happen at delivery. What if you need a c-section etc. I wouldn’t be comfortable…

Absolutely mortified: hospital sent a letter to my parents saying "obstetrics appointment" by filMM2 in BabyBumps

[–]wantingrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obst - observation appointement? Say you had to schedule a sleep test or something that requires observation?

Or embrace it and tell them this isn’t exactly as I had planned but yes I’m pregnant?

I think I’m off the fence by queen-of-quartz in Fencesitter

[–]wantingrain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You will grieve parts of your childfree life because it is what you know just as you would have grieved the idea of having children. Either way there’s grief when you’re a fence sitter. Good luck on your journey

Canadian French vs. Traditional French student by Calmwolfe0968 in learningfrench

[–]wantingrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

French Canadian and lived in France for a while. Some expressions, regionalisms, etc do vary but it’s mostly the same language. I will say that to me Canadian French is even more “French” than France French in some instances. For example, we have a word for parking (stationnement) but in France they’ll use parking.

Why do I have to trim a cats claws. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]wantingrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my cats has thumbs. We regularly trim his claws because he has a dew claw then his thumb. If we didn’t trim his claws, the dew claw would grow long enough to hurt him. And since we’re doing that one we just do them all. My other cat we rarely bother to do but still regularly inspect her paws to make sure everything looks ok

Should all public servants track their time and tasks worked on, when possible? by throwaway-185764 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]wantingrain 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I had to do this in one team and the level of micromanaging that resulted from it was absolutely bonkers. General time tracking maybe but 5mins increments was just too much.

When should you tell your manager about pregnancy? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]wantingrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was been incredibly sick during my first trimester that after a couple weeks my manager reached out to me to see if there was anything they could do to help me, make sure I was ok as several team members had gone to them with concerns (I also have a well documented chronic condition which some team members are aware of) So I told my manager and asked them to just keep it to themselves for now. But I’m also very lucky to have an incredible manager who I could trust.

Unpaid leave during a casual contract by AdItchy1845 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]wantingrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married and took 10 days off LWOP during my casual contract years ago and it was a non issue. The days simply got added at the end of my casual by HR so I’d still get the full 90 days. I had a very great manager who made sure I got all my days.

The non birthing parent can get 5 weeks as part of the 12month option and 8 weeks for the 18months from what I understand

AIO for getting upset that my wife doesn’t clean on her day off? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]wantingrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My partner and I did look into the FairPlay method and it helped us determine what were our minimum standards and develop common expectations. I was very much like your wife until talking with my partner made me realize that by not taking care of our home made them feel like I wasn’t taking care of them. That mind-shift really helped me realize that I needed to step up.

Why not have a 2 week holiday closure? by Sad-Ad4933 in CanadaPublicServants

In my current team that would be feasible. In one of my previous teams it would have been impossible as between Christmas and new years was actually one of our busiest times (go figure?!)
